The co-op I help has this 49cm sequoia with full Kirkland Paks in really nice condition

I tried to find a value for them on eBay, including sold, but I cannot find any examples.

Customer came in and offered what I thought was too little for this set

What is the consensus that these are worth?

Kirtland bags were well made. But now they are approaching 50 years old, and Cordura that old doesn't hold up well today. Minimal if any resale value.

It might sound harsh, but whatever offer you get, I'd take.

Or keep the bags with the bike instead of trying to sell them separately.

Yea , probably cost somebody a bit of money for that set , but they are old and if anyone needed them I would take what is offered.

They are hardly used, just a lil dust. Even the plastic map reader is clear and pliable.

I was offered 100 for the set, but I really wanted them to stay with a bike. Unless somebody offers me more next week, I will separate them.

I think their front handlebar bag is the best design bag ever. But then everybody switched from Quil stems to……

Given the age and the iffiness of the "waterproof" coating on the nylon, $100 doesn't seem like a bad bid for the set.

I'm not familiar with how much bikes and bike paraphernalia go for in your area but there is a good chance you are not going to get another $100 offer for that set.

If you spend a lot of time restoring them (fabric dye, fabric softener, leather dye and conditioner, fill them up and steam iron them into their former shape) you should get another $100 offer.

I would expect you to get more money parting them than leaving them on the bike. Emotionally you would hope they don't get separated, but then you find out that the new owner ended up throwing them away because to him they were worthless.

The clear, rubber-like waterproofing membrane they applied on the ins8de surface of the nylon Cordura material on most touring bags and panniers back then would usually peel and tlake off the Cordura, after some years. It pretty much like a dry rot process at work. The jags would still hold stuff ok, but just not as water resistant as when they were new. There must be some sort of sealant material made for nylon tents that you can apply to reseal the Cordura if the original sealant had failed already....

I've been commuting on a Voyageur with vintage Bikeology panniers on a Jim Blackburn rack. Material is similar to OP bags. It is worth something to me that the gear matches the age of the bike and helps create a fun vintage ride. Functionally, my panniers dissapoint in that they leak badly and and one has developed a tear below one of the zippers. I look at the value of a vintage bike in terms of fraction of the original cost. For the panniers I would further discount because they will not function as well as newer bags, and likely will tear before too long. I think the $100 offer is above actual value, particularly if you intend to use them as intended.
