Walking on Garmin 1030

After a recent Garmin update, my 1030 lost its maps, well, didn't actually lose them but turned them off. I turned them back on and noticed that when riding (no active route) and I swipe to the map, the header says, "Walking on CR150" or whatever. I've checked every setting that I can find like ride type and such but can't find anything that will change this particular map notation.

Anyway, it doesn't affect anything but it's weird seeing "walking" on the map screen.

Yes, I've seen people ask for a walking profile because it supposedly didn't have one.

I should have taken a screen pic while I was out riding today. Maybe tomorrow,

Might be that is what it thinks you are doing. If they did add different activities than cycling, then is there a place to define them and what speed that an activity should be assumed to be walking or cycling? Pedal faster and see if it becomes cycling! <grin>

Don't know though. My old Edge 500 is too old to have this capability nor would it know since it doesn't have maps. However my phone with Google Maps will sometimes try to identify what I'm doing at a particular moment via a similar wording...... walking, bicycling or driving on such and such road.

The activity is set to cycling. My wife’s computer says “riding” and I’ve checked every possible setting on both units and they’re identical. This happened after a map update.

It doesn’t hurt anything, it’s just an oddity that makes one want to dig deeper.

I think that's worthy of a call to Garmin support. I've found them to be quite helpful.

this is truth! I have used them 2 times in my life and both times they were awesome IF you call. Email can be a mess but calling them is really great CS. Now with the giant hack deal they are dealing with it might be tough right now but yes they do have CS that is good!

Actually, they haven't been bad to make phone contact with. I received a new Edge 830 on Saturday, right in the middle of the crisis. I had some questions for them and was able to make contact pretty easily at the first of the week. Definitely worth a try.
