Greetings from Brussels, Belgium! I have been trying to remove the crank from my Trek 7.5 FX (2006 model) but have not yet found how to do so. Once the dustcap is off, it is hollow from one side to the other and thus a normal crank removal tool will not work as there is nothing for the tool to push against. My LBS is closed for the moment and I don't know whey they will be open again so any help would be much appreciate. Thanks. Alec.

I am guessing that the crank is a shimano. After you remove the plastic cap from the nondrive side take off the two allen screws and the arm will come off. Then pull the drive side out.

I have a 05 7500fx that has that crank. My crank remover has 2 tips; I used the larger one for this crank.

It is a Bontrager with Truvative BB. (similar to Octalink)

Thanks for identifying the parts. It will help me to search further. I just read that I can use 2 one pence coins as the larger tip. Luckily I have some available. Will try and report back.

Make sure the coins are not too snug with the crank threads,

external bearing cranks the left arm clamps around the spindle tube holds it together, the tube is part of the right arm..

the left side cap is the bearing pre load adjustment , in the same manner as the top cap on the steering tube is the headset adjustment.

I used 2 one pence coins. These are slightly larger than a one cent coin. This worked perfectly and I managed to get off both cranks. Will post a video on YouTube to help others.
