Hi All,
I am the proud owner (haha) of a 2001 Mongoose Switchback, the bike is still running fine, not a lot of use up until last year.
I got it tuned up, and replaced grips, etc, but the Stem is creaking when I ride it, and it sorta drives me nuts at times, like on big hills...
The current stem that came with the bike, is adjustable, so I want to get a non-adjustable stem and swap it out.
From another forum user, I found this information.Quill stem, 1" threaded fork the quill of the stem is 7/8"-22.2 mm,

I don’t see a question in your post, but if you want to replace it, go ahead.

my guess is that the creaking could possibly be solved be removing the stem from the steerer tube and grease the wedge, wedge bolt threads, stem shaft, and the interface between the wedge and shaft.

My question is whether the bike's OEM stem has the same dimensions as the information the OP found on line? I would not trust a third party's claims of spec until I confirmed with my own measurements. As long as the replacement stem has the same quill design (and not a hinged/adjustable version), the same quill diameter (to fit the steerer properly) and the same bar clamp ID (to fit the handle bars) then all is good. Try removing the stem and disassembling the parts, clean and add a light coat of grease to all surfaces that come in contact with each other including the part and wedge that insert into the fork tube, tighten all fasteners properly and it should stop creaking.

I can try that, I have Fiber Grip.
My understanding was that because the it's an adjustable stem, you can only temporarily resolve the issue.
