Linda I am wanting one of those Trikes in the worst way. I sure wish I could convince my wife that I really needed one.

Yes, just walked in the door from a short 12 mile night ride. My first time with SPD's and the right combination of layers that kept me just warm enough @ 37 degrees tonight.

Strangely enough I wore Pearl Izumi tights over padded bike shorts with a short sleeve poly base layer and an eastern mountain sports fleece along with a think polartec balaclava. My arms started out cold but quickly warmed up. The only problem I had was the hands - I need a decent pair of gloves.

I did 24 miles today. It was cold (43F) and I just don't like riding in cool/cold temps.
Only saw a few other riders. I guess everyone is still out of town.
Most riders were "appropriately" dress for the temperature, but I saw one guy with a heavy cycling jacket, a headband covering his ears, full finger gloves, and shorts. Shorts??? Made my legs hurt when I saw him.

Sorry for the data overload, I'm usually too busy pedalling to take any pictures. And I'm usually too busy with life to provide a full write up about my dailly rides. Please don't be discouraged by my ride data, I don't own a car, live within 10 miles of the shop I work at and the owner is a national and state masters/pro 1/2 racing champion. I have to work really hard to keep him in sight when he gets a wild hair. Sorry again gotta get up to the shop again, to work this afternoon.

32.0 miles today
6210.5 miles this yr.
202 ride days last yr. vs 203 ride days TY
1289 miles needed to hit 2010 goal (7500 miles)
I am @ 82.8% of my goal. 91.5% of the year has passed, this is not looking good , 41 miles behind last year at this date
27.9 miles average ride this month
30.6 miles average ride this yr.

Motivation meter today was 10 on a scale of 1-10

Perfect day to ride. Not alot of people out today. I might have to adjust my goal as it looks more and more like I am not going to hit my mark of 7500 miles. I will have to do 600 + miles in December just to hit last years total. This will be a bit of a disapointment but looking back at the year and the issues that I have had 6800 miles might not be to bad. We will see...

droobieinop, keep putting those numbers up. I wish I had you numbers I would be damn proud of them.

I'm sorry I've been too busy to stop in and post up for you all, but I *am* still riding, almost every day. Since I started riding in early August, I've put in almost 700 miles commuting, around 1400 miles if you include weekend rides.

Out of the blue, one of my friends (who rode with me a few times, but has become too busy) stopped at my house and gave me a water-backpack (not Camelbak brand, but still very nice). He'd bought it to bring jogging, but never used it. Score. Now, with that and 4 water bottles, I can nearly do a century unsupported.

Several guys at work have been asking me about doing an "unofficial" century for fun, and I'm tempted to go with them, but they all have road bikes, and I'd be holding them back. Then again, when they bonk or break down, I'd be somewhere behind them... LOL.

My car's battery didn't die, I put it on a reconditioning charger, and so far it has been holding a charge. Thank goodness, I didn't need to spend more money on it.

The Nishiki frame I found has been working well, once I got the rear triangle mostly straight. The wheels are holding up okay, and I have not had a flat since I put in Mr. Tuffy liners some 3-4 weeks ago. I pulled 4 slivers of glass from my tires tonight, still no flats. I'm worried about the tire splitting from all the holes in it before the tube goes flat. The peace of mind these things have given me is fantastic.

So, in a nutshell, I'm still here, riding in the (for Louisiana) cold. Loving it!

Thanks. I showed up for a group ride this morning, and only 1 other guys came... we wound up riding into town and back, then I rode down the street and back with my 9 year old son, did 35.5 miles total.

My friend was showing me the new titanium frame he just bought, and also his new tandem... I was jealous, to say the least.

I'm still about but not riding quite yet. Just cant seem to find the time between working and working on the new PC repair room/addition. (i'll post pictures later, hey its bike related if my bike is in the new room right?) It's really hard to just up and leave and go for a ride when I have friends helping me. Specially when they are working for free..... Ok for food and beer LOL.

I commuted into work a few minutes ago. The temperature was manageable but the wind was brutal. I'm working a 1 PM to 1 AM, Saturday to Tuesday shift this week, have dressed for the overnight cold, but I just hope the wind lets up by 1 AM, otherwise I'm going to be one uncomfortable fellow at about 1:45 or so.

Yep! 40 miles on the Bay Trail. On the way back I was greeted with rain and a rather nasty headwind, which slowed progress somewhat.

That said, it does make one feel alive...

Thanks, MRZ80 for your good wishes.....fast forward from 10/18/2010 the abscess was drained and packed on 10/30/2010 at the regional hospital up the road from us....since nobody knows it exists (new construction) there was no waiting in the ER and a nurse practitioner did the honors. Was able to get back in the saddle 11/05/2010 with some discomfort. This past week was the first week I could ride with no sense of soreness or pressure. However I lost a lot of speed due to the three weeks off the bike. On Saturday the 4th I did 58 miles with a friend on the Suncoast in 4 hrs,45 minutes averaging a little under 12 mph. I'm usually in the 14-15 mph range and my friend left me in the dust. On the way back I had to dismount and walk the bike three times. This I NEVER have to do so something had been taken out of me for sure. Typical time for 55 miles would be three and a half hours. My thighs and butt were very sore even tho the swelling and affected area has been completely back to normal. Saddle is giving me fits. It's an older Avocet all leather touring model. I thought it was a good piece of leather but now I'm wondering if this component might need upgrading. Now we are getting into the cooler weather here in Florida, tonight is expected to be in the mid-thirties. My step grandson is flying into town tomorrow--he is on leave from Afghanistan, he is a U.S. Marine stationed somewhere undisclosed working in intelligence. Glad he is coming down to see family, his grandparents on his mother's side bought him and his sister airfare so they could fly down from Indianapolis where his parents live to see them and us. Merry Christmas to all cyclists on this thread and please thank God for your health and your athletic abilities because they truly are divinely inspired, as was Leonardo DaVinci who was the first to envision and actually design the bicycle. Without becoming too esoteric, it seems to me the bicycle embodies the most perfect form of transportation ever devised, with the transmission of motive power accomplished in the most economical manner from human to machine to road, via one single chain of ingenious link design, enabling man to traverse great distances with relatively minimal energy outlays.

I've had pilonidal cysts removed before, they're not fun... glad you're back on the bike! Keep at it, your body will recover if you don't overdo it. Make sure it stays clean! Last thing you want is to have to go back in to have it drained again.

I've ridden twice today, separated by sleep, since I worked a 1 PM to 1 AM shift yesterday.

The two rides prove all the old adages about preparation. My 1 AM ride with 24 F temperature and heavy winds was much more comfortable than my 5 PM recreational ride at about 35 degrees with moderate winds. The reason was that I spent a half hour preparing for the 1 AM return commute, and just threw on minimal gear for the 5 PM ride. On the 5 PM ride I wore no ear covering, resulting in significant pain. Yowch!!!

Yup, have to be prepared. I ordered some good cold-weather gloves (nobody down here stocks them) and so I should be pretty much good down to 30 degrees or so. I could probably use a balaclava... we'll see.

My return commutes would've been miserable without my balaclava. I wouldn't think material that thin would make that much difference, but it does.

I'm not gonna bother with data right now but, I'll say that it's been cold here too. Hard freeze warnings for the last 2-3 nights. I've been riding my new cyclocross bike since I got it a few weeks ago. I've not only been using it to commute but, also to do cx training races (the last and coldest last nite) and to get 10th in the Little Everglades Ranch State Championship "C" race this past sunday.

As to cold weather gear, I was warm enough during the race last night and it was in the 40s. I did almost cough up a lung after from dry, raw sinuses (indoor heating) and the cold air during the exertion. I raced in my new tights, smart wool glove liners, wool socks and wool skull cap. Saturday's cross race in Gainesville should by closer to 70, that'd be nice. Ya gotta love Florida, we can easily have a 30 degree difference in daily high and low.

Almost forgot, my new Serfas True 250 lite worked great too. Check it out. https://www.serfas.com/product_details.asp?ID=834

I have spent several days cleaning and polishing the beast (1995 Trek 800) my wifes bike. Put all new cables on Wednesday ad took it out for a test ride. Rode 10 miles and my knees started to hurt. I am 6ft 4in tall and the wife is about 5ft 3in tall so I looked like a bear on a roller skate going down the trail for the test ride. With some luck we may get over 60* F here today so I hope to get some miles in on my bike.

It finally "warmed up" today so I had to get out on the bike. It was a toasty 42 degrees when I left home. Saw two cyclists riding home as I headed out. As I was headed home I saw another guy (looked about my age) on a hybrid wearing jeans, a jacket, and a big smile.
It was a subtropical 48 when I got home. Did 22.1 miles.

Yes, finally! Teleworked today so I was able to bust out of the house right at 4 when it was still "warm" and light. I forgot to check when I left, but my iPhone said the temp was 51 F when I got back. I think it's a filthy liar and that RonH's temps sound closer to correct.

It went something like this:

Ride ride, this isn't too bad.

Plunk, chain off. Dang. Fiddle fiddle.

Ride ride, OH CRAP MY LUNG! Hack hack HACK HACK. Dying, can't breathe. Okay, I can breathe. Hack.

Ride ride. Ow, lung, hack hack. Is that ice in the gutter? Yes, yes it is.

Fast forward to about 5 miles in. Oh, okay, can breathe now, hack. I'm not gonna die. Yay! Hey, this is actually fun!

Anyway, just an easy 10-12 mile loop. Drinking a cup of Yogi breathe easy tea now. My lungs are pretty cranky about all this. I saw no other cyclists, even when coming through East Atlanta, which is kind of surprising.

As I mentioned in another post I have been cleaning my wifes old bike up (Trek 800 mtb) with the hope that she would ride a little bit. I was totally surprised when I asked her if she would try a short ride on the trail today and she said she would. Keep in mind that she has not been on a bike in 10 years and a couple of months back had some serious life threating health issues. Even though the trail is only 2 miles from our house by riding on safe neighborhood streets I loaded the bike on the car and drove to the trail head. We only rode about a mile and a half and at very low speed but I felt like this was a major advancement. I hope this is a beginning of more and longer rides. We returned home and had a sandwich the I went out for 21.5 more miles. Temp hit 61* F here today. Cold by my standards.

12/10/2010
23.1 miles today
207 ride days last yr. vs 207 ride days TY
1196 miles needed to hit 2010 goal (7500 miles)
581 miles needed to hit last years mileage
I am @ 84% of my goal and 94% of the year has passed, this is not looking good , 106 miles behind last year at this date
23.4 miles average ride this month
30.5 miles average ride this yr.

Yes I did. I took an early morning ride to our local grocery store to pick up some breakfast supplies: Milk, bagels and a package of Jimmy Dean hot sausage for our Saturday morning Biscuits and Gravy. Yeah, I know a "heart stopper" special, but it is really good.

The cold front - it was a hard freeze for us - that had invaded central Florida has now dispersed and I get to enjoy the low 70"s until Monday. The cheerful weather babe has just advised that I need to bring the plants back in for some additional sub-freezing mornings early next week.
