b17 imperial for a Clyde

Getting some pain/pressure in the tender regions. Currently riding a brooks b17, it's about 2 or 3 years old and broken in. Has anyone tried using a b17 Imperial? I am about 320's 5'7, and I am just worried how durable it will be, since it has a cutout. I tried changing the angle of the saddle but I found my self slipping forward to much if I nosed it down.

Any other saddle suggestions? I have a budget of about $150.

Thanks!

Is the pain a new occurrence? If not, you have to wonder if something else is not the matter.

If you want to stay in the Brooks family, you could get a Cambium C19 with or without cutout.

Another saddle I am keen to try out is the Selle SMP Martin Touring Gel Saddle

If you click on the above links, the price you see in Euro's, includes a 19% VAT.

If you don't live in Europe or the UK, you don't pay that 19% VAT, so the asking price will obviously be significantly less.

So, you endured a painful saddle for 2-3 years, that makes you a tough guy. I sure wouldn't.

Honestly, suggesting a saddle based on my experience would not be best. For example, I started at about your weight on the Specialized Phenom Comp saddle that came with my Diverge. I like it, but then I've had a bike fit, I wear bib shorts, and I use chamois cream.

What I suggest is visit a bike store close to you, ask if they have loaner saddles, try one that you feel confident about, repeat until satisfied. Then buy from the local bike store because they helped you make cycling fun

I'm at about 210, 5'9", I kept riding though the weight gained with age happened ..

Pay attention to your posture , don't keep your back so straight as you bend forward,

Instead, keep your hips upright, so saddle stays level, pressure on the male parts , is reduced,

arch your back from above , so hips dont rotate forward ..

just by not bending, rotating, the hips forward , so you are not placing the pressure there..

(the old adage: doc, it hurts when I do 'this'.. Doc: " then stop doing that" .. comes to mind.. )

...

low end B 17 use thinner leather than the higher priced ones so will sag sooner..

C 19 is not a bad idea, its the wider cousin of the C 17.. sit up more = more pressure on the saddle..

5' 7", 225-240 lbs - rode a B17 Imperial for a year+, 50-100 miles/week when it's warm, now on Selle SMP TRK. The SMP is good. The B17 Imp was good for about 10 miles.

I've had back problems, so I will ride only with my pelvis rolled forward; I fear that bending my lower back would cause my back problems to return. OTOH, maybe I could bend my lower back without harm if my core were stronger....

Got a chance to try out the c17 carved this past weekend. It was nice, the cut out worked great, and i noticed it wasn't as slippery as the b17. Right now I have it narrowed down between 2 saddles. The c17 carved, and the Infinity saddle. I think the C19 would be to wide and cause chaffing( I have an older saddle that i used before that caused that to happen)
