Alenax bicycle
This just popped up on my local cl and was wondering if anyone knew about these bikes. Not something I'd ever ride but interesting none the less. Im thinking of making an offer but not sure what's reasonable.

I live about a mile from where their offices used to be...
They're not "rare", at least if you consider how often they show up on CL. Usually the asking price is $100-$200, but I don't know what they ultimately sell for.

I've got a couple of Alenax Transbar Power bikes in the novelty category of my bike collection. It's a set of matching his and hers 1985 Pale Blue Alenax TRB 2400 Bikes. Alenax bikes were only manufactured for eight years, in Rochester, NY, with production ceasing in 1993. My bikes were made the first year they were made.

I believe that treadle drive systems actually pre-date the direct drive velocicpedes, having been used on tricycles and quadricycles circa1850.

There's a reason that these bikes did not catch on in popularity and replace the more traditional diamond-frame bikes. However, it is uniquely fun to ride. At first your muscle memory makes you want to pedal in a complete rotation. But with proper concentration you can begin to ride it without as much constant, conscious thought. And it certainly catches the attention of others, especially other riders, when you're out riding or at a cycling gathering. It's an integral part of my "novelty bike" collection.
