I just snagged a 312 this morning. Splined triple butted, and looks a prop from Miami Vice, lol. Neon turquoise, with multicolored geometric shapes all over it. Like a Max Headroom nightmare. I'm really tempted to paint it, but if I can I'll save the paint and touch it up. No pics yet, sorry. I never got it out of the car today. Priorites you know, had to finish my Club Fuji. If the splined tubing Miyata is anywhere near as nice as a quad butted Fuji, it should be okay with me. I have found three bikes in the last month that are my ideal size.,,,,BD

Just out of curiousity are you sure the bike is splined?
Which ones from which years are? General question . . .

Right under the nose of the sadlle on the top tube, it reads splinetriplebutted, as one word with no spaces. I had the frame apart and couldn't see any, but they must start past the thick brazed section I guess? Another weird thing is the fork had two different colors. Turquoise blue over a darker electric style blue. Maybe the turquoise was too transparent, and needed a base color?,,,,BD

Man, they were sneaky, lol. Only the downtube is splined. A great looking bike brand new. I HAVE to find a white Vetta now, hehe.,,,,BD

I don't think the blue under the turquoise has to do with the transparency. I just picked up a Koga-Miyata of bulk rubbish that was a metalic plum colour (well sort of) and I noticed on some chips that it had a coat of blue underneath. As the plum colour was original (going on condition, decals etc) I thought that the blue must be some sort of primer coat.

It's shiny though? At least on the steerer tube on my bike? I've never seen a shiny primer coat? Satin, or maybe semi gloss, but never shiny.,,,,BD

A couple of months ago my friend Antipodes knowing i had been slobbering over his Miyata 1000 made me an offer i couldn't refuse. He had come into possesion of a 1992 Miyata 1000 LT frame and was wondering if i was interested. DUH! I brought it home with a few components generously provided by him. It has been awhile putting it together but today i finished it only lacking bottle cages and some panniers.

Some notes from a note to Antipodes: The chainrings i know are not period correct but the rings i originally had contained a couple of bent teeth causing some funny stuff and i had these ones
and i thought they looked good of course the crankset is the Suntour XCM you gave me, at least i think it is XCM the decals got lost in the polish.. The pedals are correct original spec SP155. Front rack from you. The Blumels i was going to put on didn't work with the wider tires and
also the hardware was the zinc stuff and i wanted shiny stainless so i had these off an older Nishiki, good shape and wide. The rear DR is the one from you as well as the front. I have a LX I was going to put on but couldn't really see much difference. The stem is a polished Sakae, The levers 7400 series Dura-ace de-anodized and polished. Cinelli special bar tape, light beige just because i had it otherwise i would have used some black, jagwire ends black., the bars are Belleri randonneur, NOS. Louie Garneau bell. Ultegra bar-end shifters (new). Brakes original spec'd shimano m62 polished. I sure learned a lot about canti's, i still need to fine tune them. Panaracer Pasela tires, Exage sealed bearing hubs, Saddle is suede Miyata branded from a 1000 unknown year, shimano 11-34 megarange cassette. I think that is it. I still want to ride it into your place. When will you be around and thanks so much for making this possible.

Terrors, first of all great looking bike! Second, is that Belleri bar the one Velo Orange sells? I've been thinking about getting one but in your picture it looks awfully narrow for me.

Lamplight: The bars are not from Velo Orange, i unearthed them still in plastic from my local(recylclistas) bike shop. They are 42cm CtC just over 44 outside to outside so not too narrow. Thanks for your comment. I am very pleased with the build it is quite a change from the forlorn naked frame I started with.

Terry, that looks great! You sure put some time into that. All the polishing must have taken a little while. Leigh will be back this saturday I believe. You should come down on a Sunday so I can oggle over it as well.

Oh man, I love those fade paint jobs. I just sold a Rockhopper with one because I found a nicer model Rockhopper. But the replacement is plain black. I wish it had a nice fade job like you've got.

Here's a pic of the blue under the topcoat on my Koga-Miyata. It actually looks more like your Torquiose topcoat.

Unless mine was one of the Pro series (which was originally that colour blue) and has been re-painted and re-decaled

Can anyone identify this Miyata from the pictures? I know, they're terrible, but that's what I have.
It's local to me and I may be able to pick it up for $80 or so.

Edit: Never mind, I figured it out from the 1990 catalog online; it's a 721. Aluminum frame. Not for me.

Thanks for the info! The ones from VO are supposed to be 44cm, which should be wide enough if that measurement is center-to-center.

Just joined the forums and stumbled upon this thread here. After class today I am going to check out a Miyata 710 and probably buy it. I just had a One Ten thrown in on a Panasonic deal, which was a more of a band aid for having missed his Centurion Professional for $39 by about 5 minutes due to a wroong turn

The One Ten is missing the front and back DR"s, and appears to be a bit older than yours. It has about the same color it loks like, but the paint is all one color, no headtube color difference.

I'll get the serial number tomorrow and try and get some pics. She's in need of some TLC, and too tall for me by about a size. I'd guess she's at least a 58cm.

I know nothing about the One Tens, btw.

Here is my 1400....just done from a rebuild.

I bought it new in '89....Biopace ultegra

some year later the hills got steeper and a LBS converted it to a triple for me (I wasn't doing much wrenching), but the rx100 derailer/crank and alivio front derailer never felt right.

It is now full 9sp Ultegra triple (mix of new and used), the bb is durace, the saddle is the prototype Brooks Imperial b17 narrow, brake levers are original, durace bar con shifters and wheels rebuilt (new rear, orignial front) with Velocity deep V rims and double butted stainless spokes. Time to ride (inlaws just gave me an old univega for my son...it discovered it is faster than his bmx...so another project between rides)

The paint is original and not perfect and note the discreet neon decals.

Original owner - repainted it last year (Cyclart) in orange. It was originally blue. Replaced the crank, BB, levers. Kept the brakes, derailleurs.

Here's my 1980 912. It was hanging in my parents' garage since before I was born until about one month ago, so it's probably glad to be getting the miles again. Just rode 50 on Saturday.
