Jeunet--worth the price?
I'm thinking of getting this Jeunet with plans to upgrade the drivetrain eventually. The frame and fork seem nice enough, but I'm not sure of the tubing (probably nothing special).
The seller is asking $245 obo, which seems steep, especially considering the steel cottered crank and simplex components. I want to make a fair offer, though--any advice?

A gas pipe french bike for close to $300, no thanks. That is extremely overpriced and personally I think maybe $100-150 ready to ride (needing no work what so ever) would be the most it is worth.

Thanks, redxj, that's about what I thought too. The seller says it's "completely refurbished," which I'm taking to mean lube, cables, tires, tubes, bar tape and brake pads. I'm going to offer $125 and see what happens.

+1. The owner has done an excellent job cleaning it up. You would be hard pressed to find one in as nice a cosmetic condition. As previously suggested, it's your typical, entry level, boom era, French bicycle. While I don't know the Florida market well, it is certainly priced too high for my region.

That's a beautiful bike in apparent excellent condition.
We can all agree that $300 is too high, but if it were mine, and you offered me a price that much lower than my asking price - - well, I'd just have a real hard time with that.

I do think it's been cleaned up nicely and looks to be in good shape, but I'm looking for something that'd be an upgrade from my '80 Motobecane Mirage, not a lateral or backwards move (even after upgrading components, the Jeunet frame seems to have the same or less-good tubing than my Motobecane).
Oh, and I made a mistake on the asking price--$245, not $295. Fixed the original post.

I'm just finishing up a Franche-Comte like that. The paint is in terrible condition, but the chrome is incredibly good. It's going to be my beater. I've never had one of those.

Yes. It's now wearing Px10 tubular wheels, cheap dual pivot brakes and SX610 and Criterium Simplex derailers. The French had a way with gaspipe. I think it's going to be a fun ride.
I'll post pictures as soon as I finish cabling and get the bars taped.

Yeah, it is pretty. I'm on the fence. Christmas bonus is burning a hole in my pocket. I know I want something larger than my Motobecane and this in my size range, just not sure how much I can talk him down.
Probably see what my LBS has to offer first, then check this out in person.

Great frame from each model. They are very light
I have my brothers Jeunet with 3 spoke Nervar cottered crank and the bike is so light, it feels breakable but, still tight and straight

I paid 100.00 for one of these about 3yrs back. The year of the bike was circa 1972. Best part was the wheelset, Mavic tubulars with Normandy hubs. That covered the price. I still have the Simplex shifters and derailleurs. Heavy bikes but were better equipped than other era bikes with gaspipe frames. Very interesting bikes and nice find you have!

Had to add this incase anyone is looking for a Jeunet in the Toronto area...
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...0137479367464/
Burlington Ontario at $240 Canadian ($180US). A bit higher than I'd see where I live but probably in line with Toronto traffic.
PS I know it' an old thread.
It's too small and I'd just want the pump and pump pegs
