Uh-oh. My favorite pie shop is up in Estes Park, and I'm down here in Fort Collins -- uphill all the way. I guess I better start training :-(

BTW, they have the best web site name I've ever come across: youneedpie.com

The garden has yielded good crops this year from such a small patch- 8 lbs of Blackberries from just 3 small plants and 11lbs of Gooseberries from 3 older bushes. The wife has been jam making to use up the surplus but we have a family Bar-B-Que tomorrow and it was a choice between Gooseberry Fool or Goosebery Pie. Think she will have to make another one tonight as this one might not last till tomorrow.

And just picked 5lbs of Blackcurrants aswell.

Gooseberry fool-Thick double cream with gooseberries mashed to a puree and folded in. The fool is the one that thinks he can only have one helping.

Doing a ride in London on the 18th- and may have to take my own Pie. The route has been changed for this year due to the Pope paying a visit so I won't be able to visit the Cafe I got Pie from last year. Apparantly he doesn't fancy riding that day so we have to change the route to accomodate the Pope Mobile.

Mind you- The Pope Mobile would make a good Sag Wagon

Well here is the web site of the magical shop I found in Maine: https://www.pieintheskymaine.com/

Absolutely worth a stop if you are ever there. We were actually planning next year around this place.

Um, Miss K...I have a confession to make. I was picking and eating wild blueberries in (gasp) Michigan two weeks ago.

Riding in the Upper Peninsula near Whitefish Point, wild blueberries were growing everywhere - especially in a tiny secluded cove near the shore of Lake Superior. They were the best I've ever tasted. Of course I've yet to try any from The Garden State.

That's okay, Louis. I'm sure you were very hungry, so naturally, they would have tasted good. I've spent the winter eating blueberries imported from Chile and they tasted good because I didn't have anything else. It just prepares one for the marvel of New Jersey Blueberries. Your day will come.

When I talked to my daughter this week and said that I was training for The Pie Ride, she said that it was a long time to train for a ride on March 14th. I said not Pi (3.14) but blueberry pie, or even better Ogalaberry pie on the following weekend for the Lighthouse Century. I hate math majors.

They're picking apples here already. All our crops are about three weeks early this year due to the early Spring and hot Summer. It'll just be a matter of time and my dear bride will be baking fresh Apple Pies!

On another note, I had hoped to share my Pie Ride with her again this year but I don't think she'll be up to it. I'll find some way to get the miles in (that's the easy part), and still be able to enjoy a nice treat of pie in a restaurant with the bride (which will be the tricky part as she's not driving yet either). These are the challenges that make life so special and exciting.

I've been warming up by having an ice cream during each ride and will soon graduate to pie a-la-mode. Once I've reached that point I will know that I am ready for the big day!

Lenny,

Thanks for the tip - I'll be passing orchards today when on my ride. Today is the climb up the Helderberg escarpment from the back side, the view should be great and we will pass a few orchards along the way. Fresh empires might be in the immediate future.

Sometimes research is about the sacrifice. Be sure to post your findings. HEY, what about that, a National/Worldwide Blueberry Pie Ride Directory? I think the tie is right.

Thank you Dnvrfox for the variance. I think it is wise that I ride the prior week. I will post any "observations" that might guide you all to a better pie ride experience.

Well, making your own is allowed. And, in desperate situations, one can go to the frozen pie locker.

Pie Ride? Did somebody say Pie Ride?
I'm in, but sorry to say, no blue berries for this boy.
If it's pie and it has berries, they darn sure better be black berries.

Jeff, still fat - not from eating pie

I indulged in some preliminary training yesterday. Not an interval - more like a splat.

I went to McDonald's and, in the middle of a 30 mile ride, I ordered an apple pie and a dish of ice cream, mixed them together, and ate the whole mess.

Nothing compared to the luxuriousness of smooth blueberry pie from a real pie place, but still a start inn my training.

My heart rate monitor went crazy - if I wore a HRM - getting up to way over my max - is that an impossibility or an oxymoron? - but I think that for the pie contest one is allowed to have a heart rate more than your max.

So begins my official training.
