Mud + CX = good ... Mud + MTB = bad ... WHY?
When we ride our CX courses in bad weather and churn up mud and cause mayhem we say it's getting better and better.
When we ride trails on our Mtbikes if we leave a rut we need to get off the trail.
Why the difference?

Race organizers usually have agreements with the park facilities for grounds repair following the event.

CX also doesn't use the same exact course every time either, even on double race weekends some stuff gets changed up. along with the cleanup/repair the stuff that is beat up has a year to come back until the next race.
btw hiking in some areas follows the same rules.. NH and VT have mud season where certain areas are closed until things firm up again after the spring melting.

This is the main beef park managers have with mtn bikers. They dig out ruts on steep climbs, and unless fixed, they cause erosion damage when it rains.
