How does this picture look?

Short week this week, I'm taking off Wednesday, and so I managed to ride to work both yesterday and today. That means my car hasn't moved since last Thursday night, and could potentially keep sitting until this coming Monday morning. But I have some work I need to do on the car, and I'll likely do a test drive anyway when I'm done.

E-bike yesterday, road bike today. This morning was no wind and 10 degrees warmer than yesterday morning, but I was still slow as poo. 25 minutes slower than the e-bike commute yesterday morning. Ride home was nice, around 60 degrees, but I had so much stuff to carry I had no room for my jacket from this morning. Had to get creative and stuff it through my trunk bag's top carrying handle, draped across the bag and panniers. It worked fine, jacket stayed put the whole 15 miles home.

Yes, I was thinking along the same lines. It makes little sense after the fact, there are still ways around them, and if anything they seem a little dangerous. Is there sometimes a bottleneck when multiple people are riding through? I'm usually on that path later at night (after 9pm), when there isn't much bike traffic.

Not sure how I feel about a speed limit for regular bikes, but the motorized stuff either needs to be limited, or restricted to regular roads.

@Tundra_Man - that sounds like a brutal ride no doubt. Hope you had some tailwinds on the way home.

This morning's low was only 44F, so I left the tights at home and rode in with shorts. Pretty nice ride. The roads were wet from some overnight rains, but no more rain for the day.

Brilliant - and now I need help on a similar, important issue! I have a pie to take home today and unlike frozen turkey it won't stay a pie in my pannier. Anyone have suggestions?

25F this morning and windchills are now being mentioned in the forecasts. This is my last commute for a while - off rest of the week and in New York all next week. I'll be watching out for @noglider!

I drove today after riding Monday and Tuesday. My new cassette will not be in today and that was my biggest reason for riding today. I found out i had over 10k miles on the previous cassette and it was shifting bad. The bike shop put a different cassette on to get me by.

So I drove because I get to leave work early today and I hope to take care of some time sensitive chores. (buy wiper blades for both cars). I did go to the gym and run and lift weights. whew muscles are tired.

@arsprod, wrap it tightly in aluminum foil. Bind the foil to the pan with rubber bands. Then wrap with a plastic grocery bag and more rubber bands.

Last night is was cold and raining and the creek crossing the MUP was flooded.
I know the drill, but this guy riding behind me said it seemed fine. (It was his first non-summer day riding this route.) He wasnt exactly familiar with where the MUP edge is, and he ended up tipping over on the soft ground. It was up to his waist. For once I was the older (?) wiser veteran, having plowed through in the past. Here is him carrying his bike back to the MUP:

Cool, -4C/25F, dark commute at 6:30 this morning. Icy roads as a result of snow, then milder conditions to melt it, then colder conditions to freeze the slush. The frozen slush was not deep so although I have studded tires, the studs are more central to the tire whereas more studs that are also located more to the outside of the tread would help me if I had to "climb" out of a rut: the ruts were easily avoided or not that deep. Slightly milder but snowier commute home this afternoon.

Happy Thanksgiving fellow Americans! We're enjoying a leftover Shepard's Pie analogue tonight. Leftover creamed turkey from Canadian Thanksgiving with sweet potatoes on top. It should be tasty. I'm lucky I get two celebrations of thanksgiving now I'm Canadian and American. It's my favorite holiday!

@arsprod I'm a little late to the party but you could try to get a plastic pie tray from the grocery store. A friend did that this Thanksgiving to transport their pie to our dinner. The grocery store just gave them to him for free.

My first commute in a long time!!
2013 - bad fall off the bike - broken hip socket - had surgery to insert a metal band - 4 years of sciatica pain - metal removed in Sept 2017 - pain gone - physio - first commute today.

So glad to be back!

I did something stupid and forgot to pack my lights just left them charging at home

Lucky mere there is a bus that gets me within 2 miles of my place, but I still had to ride those last two miles in pitch darkness with nothing more than my backup red blinker on my backpack

That's a good one! So for everyone who might have this important task I followed @noglider's directions of several layers of alum foil and rubber bands then put in plastic bag and strapped to my front rack. It worked great except my first wrap of the bungee was too tight and squished it sideways a bit. This forum has such great and important advice!!

Back to the Monday and full work week. 28F when I left this morning at 6am. One downhill was a bit cold, but going back up warmed me up again. Not bad really and supposed to hit 60+ today. Traffic was back in full effect too, so I bailed on a highway route in favor of a MUP.

Gorgeous morning for consecutive commute number 415. 39 degrees with a light tail wind. I actually got a little warm in my windbreaker and head band.

I can't believe the beautiful weather we're having for the last week of November/early December. For the last 4 days starting on Thanksgiving the temp was in the 50s. This week the high temps are predicted to be in the upper 40s.

The mornings are dropping below freezing, but usually by this point in the year we're starting to see occasional lows in the single digits. So far this year I think our coldest morning was 14 degrees, and we've only had 5-6 mornings below 20.

Nice weather this morning -- but how does my wife's windshield frost when it's 35F? Tried a new pair of gloves, but that's going into the pile for 40-50F range, possibly with rain. It's just not warm enough for the 30s.

apparently I am sick and have all kinds of head congestion. I have been sleeping poorly so I drove this morning. it was around 29F and I think my head would have 1. either ran like crazy or 2. throbbed with pressure.


playing it safe and driving a few more days with hopes of getting healthier before riding. car traffic was terrible though!

38F, clammy. Back to green/gray after long weekend in Fairbanks, all shades of white.

Also, 40F warmer than I have been the last several days, so only wearing t-shirt and raincoat vs 2 shirts, puffy coat, raincoat (and thicker gloves, long underwear, giant boots...)

Hmmm, a little different conditions than @HardyWeinberg above. These Mondays, my wife has a course and needs to go in early (6am) so I've been driving her in, then I take my bike to work and ride home after my work (she'll be done at 2, go to her course which isn't over till 5:30 but I'm done at 4:15). So, I didn't really commute to work but I decided to go for a ride anyway by taking the bike out of the back of the car and riding for about 20 minutes.

It was pretty cold: the air temperature was about -12C/10F but there was a strong northerly wind (crosswind as I tended to travel east/west) so it felt much colder. There was a dusting of snow on the ground but my studded winter tires had no issue with it.

I forgot to mention yesterday that I saw a coyote on the MUP. At least I'm pretty sure that's what it was. It was as big as a german shepherd, but all tan. When it saw me, it silently trotted off and disappeared into some tall brush.

This morning was again at about 28/29F.
About 9 miles in I made a left when under my seat there arose such a clatter.
I pulled off to the side to see what was the matter.
Away to the side I stopped in a flash,
Unclicked from my pedals or else I would crash.
The sun filtered through the trees with a glow.
And a hiss I could hear, from where I didn't know.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a wood screw in my tire and I said, "Oh dear."
