Swapped some parts around from the bin and another bike to build my Master TG into a SS commuter. Originally was pink with black splatter. I removed the top tube cable guides because they got smashed and the downtube shifter mounts because my original plan was to put cable stops on the downtube and convert to 1x10. Too many projects and this sat for too long. Repainted because while it wasn't being used it was in direct sunlight and the entire drive side was badly faded. Fork is a Reynolds 531 off an old Trek.

Pulled this off the neighbor's trash pile and built it up for my nephew to take to college this fall. ~'95 Diamondback Ascent EX. CroMo frame, Tange fork, misc Shimano Deore (mostly) components. V-Brakes are Tektro, though. All from my parts bin. I think I might have $75 into this bike, and most of that is in paint and supplies.

Picked this up awhile back. looks to be a 1990 Carbon DB. Not a production model that im aware of. Maybe a race frame or a prototype? there is no serial number stamped anywhere. But has a 1990 DB headbadge. and sticker residue from a downtube decal of some sorts. a Shimano sticker on the top tube and a Diamond Back sticker on the Fork. Dura Ace BB-7400 bottom bracket and a Tange Novel Headset.

It is very rare to have a serial number format that incorporates more information than the manufacturer's identity, year and sometimes a further calendar stratification (I.e. month, fortnight or day). While it's very rare, some manufacturers do incorporate model and tubing information but I've never seen this from a Diamond back manufacturer.

This one looks a lot closer to 1993 than 1983. While it appears to have been substantially rebuilt, the presence of a brazed-on cable stop near the top of the seat tube for a top pull front derailleur, would put it into the 1990s.

You are right, the serial number begins with an "I".

The top bicycle, with the chain stay mounted u-brake, should be 1987-1988. The Apex, with the straight fork, should be a 1989 model. Serial numbers? TIA.

It has cantilever brakes front and rear.
I don't have that bike anymore so can't get a serial number from it.
Unfortunately the Apex is at my niece's and they are under a 14 days quarantine because a relative they visited had worked with someone who tested positive for the Covid19 virus.
Cheers

That appears to be the same frameset used on the Centurion Ironman Carbon. These were a 1988 model, though I saw one that turned up with a 1991 serial number! It was still labeled as Centurion, so I assumed it was a European market model coming out of the German company and using the same source. So, even though a Diamond Back carbon fibre road bicycle wasn't marketed in the USA, it could been catalogued in a foreign country. The 1991 sample had the serial number stamped on the inside of the non-drive side rear dropout.

My Diamond Back Apex. Please excuse the cell phone images.
As you can probably see, I have it set up for commuting mostly.
The street treaded tires, and Rock Shock.
Shimano Deore Derailleur.

My Voyager. It was an MTB with a retro styled frame. I added the disk brakes myself. It was stolen out of my front yard a few years ago.
