Time for a new bike - Where are best prices? - Under $2,000
I started cycling in my early 50's in 2011 - At first it was on a Hybrid Schwinn (which I still have a use, but rarely). Then 6-9 months after I started cycling I got Trek 1.2 at almost $1,000 and my wife practically had a heart attack not knowing how expensive bikes can be. That was my first "real" Road bike. I have been riding that for the last 8 years. It's time (turning 60 in Sept.) to get a new(er) bike. I have been approved by my wife for under $2,000 (that's progress - LOL). This is where I need your help. I want to get a decent bike for my money ($2,000 or less). I'm thinking of maybe a Giant. Any suggestions on where to get best deals on a bike or good bikes with less known names would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

I just bought a CAAD 12 w/105 for $1300 and it is a great bike. I also have a Masi, Colnago and a Guru and the CAAD 12 may be the best of them. Here's a pic.

I would start with Giant Defy and Canyon Endurance. Those two are easily among the best value in the industry.

I see you're in Peachtree City, I regularly see nice bikes on Atlanta Craigslist. If you're knowledgeable enough to feel comfortable checking them out, there's usually some nice deals to be found.
I assume you're looking for another road bike ? What's your weight, and what size frame do you ride ?
Here's a sweet 52cm. Colnago gravel bike ( basically a extra-rugged road bike), that's practically new, w/ Ultegra 11spd, that retailed for $3700, asking $2400. They might negotiate down to your range.

The CAAD is a terrific bike but very racy, which might or might not be what you're looking for.
1. How much saddle to bar drop are you looking for?
2. Do you ride in the drops frequently?
3. Are you looking for a fast handling bike or a more stable bike?
4. What size tires are you thinking you'll run most frequently? You say you rarely ride any non-pavement surfaces, could that change for you?
5. Do you live in a hilly area? What kind of gearing do you need?
6. Will you be carrying stuff? Would you like the ability to mount racks or fenders?
In this price range, I would focus on practicality. Nothing proprietary or fancy. Threaded BSA BB preferably. Simple seatpost setup. Etc. Leave some money for a new pair of pedals. You might need to replace the stock saddle as well. OEM wheels in this price range generally are pretty unreliable and heavy, be prepared for needing an upgrade in a couple of years. There are lots of good options out there around $1,500.

You're obviously in no rush so keep your eye out for end of year deals... competitive cyclist usually has some and I just got an email from excel sports saying they were hawking all their demo pinarello F10 bikes (which are well above your budget AND mine)
