What is the best stuff to wear if it's raining and you still want yo ride?

Looks like rain for a bit here and I don't want it to be a reason not to go out but also don't need to catch a cold

I wear LL Bean fleece. The fitness fleece is good for light rain/mist. The regular stuff is fine for a few hours of not too heavy rain or about 30 minutes of heavy rain.

I'm considering getting the top of the line waterproof fleece they sell. Even when the regular stuff gets wet I don't feel cold. Worth the $$$ or you can often find it on Ebay.

I have bright yellow cycling specific jacket with added reflective tape that I love. If it's just sprinkling I wear my Novara headwind cycling specific pants. If it's pouring I would add my REI rain pants with added reflective tape and my feet would get the Tingley pull on overboots. If it's just sprinking I won't wear the overboots and just let the shoes dry for a few days. Just saw some Walmart hi vis wind breakers you might be able to get away with for a light sprinkle.

I always wear a high vis yellow jacket when its raining (Showers Pass), water resistant lobster claw mitts (MEC) , and bike tights sprayed with NikWax.
My best purchase last year for rain rides was a set of overshoes/booties (Pearl Izumi) - I only regret that I didn't buy them sooner.

I guess it depends on what the conditions surrounding the rain are. Riding in the rain with rain gear can be nice and dry, however most of the rain we get here is in summer, so riding with rain gear in 87 degrees is just overheating. I'd rather just get wet at that point.

We more or less get winter rain which is a cold rain. It spring now and still rain no cool this week. But if I get lucky the rest of the week like I did today I get ride in between the rain.

I need to to make this a solid routine before I spend a bunch on gear, I spent enough in the bike lol. I m just trying to get my wish list together.

Rain jacket, booties and leggings ought to do ya. But, expect to get wet feet, especially if using clipless pedals on a bike with no front fenders.

rain jacket and booties does the most protection along w/ a rear fender. Bibs stays a bit drier w/ the fender. I don't like gloves, they just soak up and make my hands colder. Knee warmers are good idea, body heat will dry them after the rain stops. No arm warmers under jacket (vented)

when I was bike commuting it took me about a whole year to get a year's worth of gear worked out. each season is different and just when you think you have the right stuff the planet shifts yet again.

this winter has been horrible (but I loved it) that riding in a warm rain, well I can't even imagine it even tho I've done it so many times

Merino wool top(s) and bottom

Goretex shell top and bottom

Wool socks and waterproof coverings

Showerspass rain covering for helmet

Either wool gloves over cycling gloves or cycling gloves under rubber gloves used in the fishing industry

Fenders are nice and spare wool clothing

waterproof winter clipless boots(Lake MXZ302), Novara Stratos waterproof
pants, Illuminite jacket, generic winter gloves, baseball cap under my helmet:

Rain has no impact on ability to catch colds.

+1. I have a friend who is a well-respected pediatric immunologist. She gets a kick out of people who still believe the old wives'tale about catching a cold from going outside with a wet head.

if it rains, I go to the mtb trails which drain well to minimize ruts

I wear thinner material shorts and a Gore top if cold, otherwise a plain poly jersey

too dangerous by me to be on the road with cars in the rain, when I have alternatives

Above 60F don't worry about it. You will still be soaked with sweat inside a rain jacket. If it is colder I will either wear a merino wool jersey or a fleece pullover with tights.

I have a Garneau h2 helmet cover. Can I spray some water repellent on it or should I have just bought a rain cover?

In the good old days when we got rain in California i wore a gore brand jacket and Pearl Izuma water resistant tights. Top that off with a fleece hat and some good quality leather ski gloves and good for the rain.

Have not had to use that gear for the past couple winters.
