Went to the LBS to buy a new set of Shimano pedals and they came attached to a new Carbon Synapse 5.

First ride tomorrow AM..replaces my Synapse 7 but that was a 56 and too big, this is a 54.

I wish thay had taken it in trade but this dealer refuses to touch anything used..no used sales or trades at all which is too bad but that is his policy.

I put the Syn 7 on e-Bay a couple of hours ago and have maybe 40 views and 4 watchers so I guess it will sell quickly (10% view to watcher ratio is a very good sign)..I put it on for $575 with no reserve..an '09.

I wanted another triple but I am going to try the double but I think I am going to need to change the rear gearing a bit to match the low I had with the triple.

Do you ride western NC with the compact? I'm afraid my weak ass Florida legs will need a bit lower gearing to go where I would like.

It seems close..the low gear on my new one is 10% higher than my triple..I suppose I could change the rear cogs a bit.

By the way, the same thing happened to me earlier in the month. We went to buy a new bike for my wife (Trek 7.5 FX) and ended up with a accessory of a Cervelo RS for me.
Isn't it funny how that happens.

Just got in from my first ride (I didn't test ride it before I bought it) and it is quite nice.

I got in a sweaty 52 miles this morning and feel pretty good. The fact that this is the first bike I have ever owned that fits me is part of it. For some reason I always was under the impression I needed a 56-58 CM but I was riding with a guy who said right off that my 56 was too big..and he was right. After doing some checking around a 54 is much more my size.
During the course of the ride I adjusted the seat up and forward and added a little twist up on the bars.

Much of the comfort on this ride came from the stock seat. I have always tossed the stock seats but decided to try this one and it is an easy chair (for me). It is a Prologo Kappa pas. Ass felt great and nothing fell asleep..what more can you ask for?

I may change the gearing. It comes with a 50/34 chainring set up and I think I would do better with a 48/32 if they are available.

One more thing. There is an ugly spoke protector behind the cassette. Is it ok to remove this? Is there a better looking one?

Ah, the dork disc.

When you are absolutely sure the RD is set up correctly and the low limit screw is right you can remove it. Don't want to mess up your new wheel and RD yet.

Too funny, I guess there is a name for everything.

I told a friend of mine about the my love for the seat on this bike..he has one he likes for the same reasons, he calls it his "Nosleepwewe" seat.

I may change the gearing. It comes with a 50/34 chainring set up and I think I would do better with a 48/32 if they are available.

I used to have a triple with 30/26 as my lowest gear. 52/42/30 on the crankset and I rarely used the 52. Went compact and 50/34 and 12/27. Found I could use the 50 now-just could not pull the 52 except downhill.

It took a bit of confidence training but Those hills I found hard in 30/26 were no harder in 34/27. Started on the 8% and they were easy- went to the 10% and no harder- then the 12% and finally the 12% with the 15 to 20% kink in it. If I had tried the hardest hill first- I think I may have given in too easily. Then finally the 16% and it surprised me- I was sweating a bit by the end and cadence was a bit low- but another milestone passed.

I once walked into the LBS for some chamois lube, and walked out a bike. Forgot the chamois lube too.
