Univega city beater

Just bought this UNIVEGA project for $10. Cantis front and rear, 26" rims, and Suntour derailleurs. I think the worn off top tube decal says Rover Sport. Going to be used for riding to work and bad weather riding. Going to add mustache bars, bar end shifters, rear rack, and fenders. I have most of the parts already so this is going to definitely be a super budget build (no budget build lol). Will add pics as I gain progress!

Very cool! Look forward to seeing the cleaned up pics. I've never seen that model of Suntour RD , very neat. The Disraelli Gears write up is worth a read.

Better than the deal I got on my 1972 Raleigh in 1982...

Looks like it should make a good commuter once you get done with it.

Awesome bike, I'd say leave it as is.
My Rover Sport was one of the best riding bicycles I've had, wish I still had it:

Well I got the beater all greased and ready to ride. Had some knobby tires laying around in the junk pile so I threw them on for now. Going to run slicks in the near future, but alas my brother was riding my main bike (Raleigh USA Team Reynolds 531) and hit a curb and blew out my front tire. That was my main reason for this bike so I wouldn't wreck my nice Panaracer tires and Mavic MA-40 rims on curbs rough roads etc. So now I have to replace that tire before I do anymore to the beater.

A friend of mine has a similar Mongoose. Made a pretty sweet ride out of it.

I like it, I have only had the woman's Rover Sport and just picked up a Rover Ten which is also a woman's bike.

Last month I picked up a Univega Alpine 500 (?) for free. Sturdy bikes. Making it a cargo bike, great theft deterrent, seeing that they look like every other bike! No one needs to know!

Changed the bars out and took off some components yesterday. Decided to ditch the front derailleur and go with 5 speeds. Not quite mustache bars but I like them a whole lot better than the stock bars. New grips too. It's a pretty fun ride, I'm enjoying riding it!
