Replacement for Shimano Exage 500CX 7 speed?
Hi guys
Newbie here. I have a older Univega hybrid with a long cage Shimano Exage 500CX 7 speed rear derailleur which needs to be replaced. What would be a good replacement for this derailleur - I'm looking for one with the highest chain wrap capacity. Thanks in advance.

I often like buying used bike parts, but I've had a few used derailers where at least one spring was worn out, making them less than optimal on the bike. For the low cost of a new one in this case, I'd probably favor new.

Same Exage 500 CX on my '92 Univega, 30/40/50 triple chainring, 12-32 8-speed cassette. Still works but if I needed to replace it I'd go for something like the Shimano Deore mentioned above.
Update: Since originally posting, I've acquired an early 1990s Shimano Deore LX long cage rear derailleur. It's nearly identical to the Shimano Exage 500 CX. There are inconsequential differences in the shapes of the cage swing/pivot stop and some cosmetics. Even the model numbers stamped on the bodies are almost the same, differing only by a minor revision.
I'm not sure whether any other Deore components from that era are also relabeled from Exage. I have only the Deore LX RD.

Big change... fit a Shimano 8 spreed internal gear hub wheel . the 1 cog will always be available for replacement..
