New to the club

As of this month I can now post in this elite club of 50+. It feels good because a part of me never though I would make it this far in life. For my birthday my wife signed me up with a personal trainer and my Dr put me on a vegan diet for the next 3 to 6 months. Hopefully I survive both of those. Next big goal in life is to retire at 55 and ride the southern tier.
Cheers.

5 years to retirement = good
retiring at 55 = good, if you are ready for it.

Numerous active hobbies help.
Meaning active hobbies you actually pursue, rather than talk about.
i need more active kayak time.

Vegan Diet
I work in Nuclear power and had a job causing a lot of stress. I am on 5 different meds. I took a less stressful job and my numbers fell. My Dr likes to get away from meds if possible. He said with the stress gone and 3 to 6 months on a plant based diet could get me away from the meds and even reverse some damage that may be done. He has been after me for a while to do it and I decided it was time.

Colonoscopy
I had the pleasure of doing this a few years ago. He said I'm good for about 10yrs. So, hopefully that's over til I actually retire.

I retired recently just shy of 69. Wasn't ready at 55 but if you are when you get there - then go for it!

I'm not sure I will totally retire. I can retire and come back as a contractor at a better pay rate. I want to do a cross country tour around then also. But we have a foster child we will adopt if we can and that will throw a wrench in all my plans but will be worth it.

Sweet. We've been working with a financial planner for a few years now and she put us on target for me to retire at 55 too. The hard part is that we'll have two kids in college then but so far we're on track.

My SO is a financial planner. And she has a great plan: I work until I drop.

Seriously, I'm probably gonna retire by scaling back a day a week until I get down to about 3 days a week. Starting as soon as I can arrange it.

Scaling back sounds attractive. Retiring entirely? I'm not so sure.

Well, by retire I mean officially activate my pension. I'm pretty sure I can return the day after my birthday as an R.A. We've also talked about joining the Peace Corps. I've had this idea that I'd like to get my TOEFL certification and that would dovetail nicely.

Ah. Naturopath. Don't stop watching your numbers. Check B12 levels from time to time. Check your diet's protein and calcium content.
