Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cervelo R3

So I went in to my LBS to drop off my bike for a little tune up and get a rough re-fitting and had to see it...white Cervelo R3-SL built with Dura-Ace...god talk about lust. I guess the store just got in their Cervelo shipmetn for the next few months because I was practically tripping over R3-SL's PC3's and SLC-SL lol. I still can't get over those little seat stays, god what a hot bike...well sorry to waste your time, I just had to write this....few more years....just a few more years.

I didn't think they made the R3 SL in white. Will have to check it out.

Have a regular R3 in standard black/red.

don't get one!

my white R3 gets so many compliments i'm running short on humility.

i think i responded to the last "nice bike!" compliment with "yeah, i know...she's pure sex"

My Flatland/Freestyle bike in highschool was pearl white and I never got tired of it! I have a bright red Trek right now and I'll probably never buy another brightly colored bike. I remember in highschool all the pro flatlanders I rode with had the most ridiculous bright paint jobs, bright orange, blue sparkle, and I was always jealous but after owning a brightly colored bike...I gotta say, I'm kinda over it.

& Mr. Bubbles, you are mistaken, they are not ugly, they are just so damn hot they appear ugly in comparison...kind of like 98% of the cast of the View...wait what?!

I think it was an R3-SL at least, might have been a regular R3, either way, it looked great...except for those CSC stickers which should be peeled off!

Mistaken? Hardly. Cervelos are ugly. Those who insist Cervelo bicycles are "so damn hot" is delusional at best, such statement should not be used to describe an inanimate object, and certainly not Cervelo.

Let me guess, you probably really like the Dave Matthews Band too, here's the box...try and step out of it occasionally.

I had the good fortune of laying my grubby hands on a white R3 from another rider in a group ride. Im riding steel and the R3 outfitted with Ultegra SL felt like it weighted as much as my pair of wheels.

Of course a retrogrouch like me couldn't stomach the fat tubes, but I'm gonna ask for a test ride on the R3 one day, just to get a feel of how carbon rides.

Interesting. A few days ago I stopped by a local shop (Insideout Sports) and, they too were brimming over with Cervelos. I went ahead and had them adjust up an RS for me then took it out for a spin. It is a nice riding bike - definitely leaning to the "racer" category, imho. Perhaps a bit stiffer than I had expected, given the RS is perceived to be the comfort model, but the general road manners all felt pretty good. Steering was quick but not too quick, acceleration was instant and seemingly effortless, tracking was straight and stable. The bike was fairly lightweight too. About the only think I might criticize is the FSA crank. I have been spoiled with my DA crank and, nothing seems to measure up to it. But, overall the RS seems like a nice bike that isn't hideously expensive like so many of today's high zoot carbon bikes. I could live with one.

I gotta say I haven't gotten to take one on a ride yet but I sat on it and loved it and love the look, who knows maybe when I ride an R3 or an SLC I'll absolutley hate it, but I like everything I see, and since I have no chance of buying one this year, and probably longer in reality, i'll keep judging on looks lol.

I mean what defines a good looking bike, boring designs and angles? I would never want a bike where the aesthetic took away from performance but I mean seriously whats wrong with with out there designs, esp if they enhance the performance.

There's no box to step out of, Cervelos are ugly. It's an opinion, I'm not responsible for how anyone choose to view an opinion from a guy on an internet forum.

Cervelos are not good looking bikes, so is anything by Orbea, those two brands need to die.

is it really necessary to state your obviously unpopular opinion over and over again?

Maybe there aren't many Cervélos out in the hinterlands of Greater Los Angeles, but here on the East Coast, Cervélos are a dime a dozen, so the Dave Matthews Band comparison doesn't really work. Considering that you've never even ridden one, what's the problem? Too fragile to have someone impugn your taste?

Maybe they are a dime a dozen where cheesesteaks reign supreme but Killadelphia is not THE East Coast...

Here in Vermont...

I have NEVER seen a Cervelo on the road...

And I have never ridden one, but do own one, and should have it in my possession later this week...

I hope...

i think bikes like Cervelo and Orbea are wonderful in a marketplace where 98% of the products look nearly identical except their paintjob, sometimes fork and sometimes seatstays.
