Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Crank Bro psi rating ?

Looking to get a mini-pump to backup my CO2 inflator and I’m think of getting a Crank Brothers’ mini. Their models claim 100, 115 and 130 psi. Can we realistically achieve these claimed psi ratings? I’d like to get the smallest and lightest model that’ll give 100 psi (and I'M in no hurry to get there). Thanks

No. They suck. They suck so bad people who used them would give them away for free.

I have one. The highest (road tire) pressure I can achieve is about 80psi. I also carry CO2. I use the pump to get the tire somewhat firm, then use the CO2 to get it up to full pressure ~110psi.

Had had read good reviews. If not Crank Bro, what's a good small and light model that I can squeeze into my seat wedge bag or back pocket that will give me 100 psi? thanks

Get a Topeak Road Morph G. Great pump. Won't fit in your seat bag but will sit in your jersey pocket just fine. Also comes with a frame mount. It has a short hose and a flip out foot peg so it works like a shrunken down floor pump. Easily get 120psi or more. I have used it to get 130 a couple of times.

i'm pretty sure the use of mini pumps is to get you back home in the event of a flat. not get you back to 120psi.

Minipumps are crap, period. I've tried minipumps from Blackburn, Planet Bike, Crank Brother, they suck. Topeak's minipump might work ok, but still, they take way too f***ing long to pump up a tire. If I have a flat 50 miles from home, I'm not relying on minipumps to get me limping home.

In some of my rides, I need to lower the pressure and pump it back up. I do this while mountain biking in higher attitude, or road riding on gravels. While most of you never ride on snow, snow bikers have to deal with tire pressure all the time, CO2 or mini pumps just won't cut it.

Get the Topeak Road Morph or the Zefal HPX and be done with it.

I have used CO2 as well, I only use it when I'm not in the middle of nowhere. I still prefer pump, because it's reliable, and you can help others as well.

I hate mini pumps. No power.
I use this for both worlds, and you are probably getting the same weight as carrying 2 pumps;; maybe a bit more, but it sure is convenient.
