compact bars and big hands
Compact bars are advertised to be suitable for those with small hands or who like a higher position on the drops. I like the idea of being higher on the drops, but I have big hands. Would I find compact bars uncomfortable?

I would suggest the Ritchey Bio Max bars for you . I have larger hands, the drops on these bars is shallow but the anatomic hand area is larger than on the other bars they offer.

FWIW, I really like the shape of the FSA compact bars and I have large hands.

I just find it odd that the bars I've seen called "compact" have a wider-radius sweep to their drops than almost anything else.
I don't like the drops in "ergo" bars because my hands are too big. On the bottom tips, only half of my hand is supported; on the straighter, angled portion, my hands are smushed from above & below. Putting my hands right at the bend isn't a comfortable option either because my palms don't touch the bar and can't support any weight.
I really want to try "compact" bars on a decently-long test ride. From feeling them in the shop, they seem like their curve is gentle enough that my hand will be fully supported, yet still give me more variations in positioning.
