It's all about the bike

I caught this on public radio last night. Lovely radio story. Sounds like a wonderful book.

https://www.npr.org/2011/05/15/136239...-on-two-wheels

British author Robert Penn has ridden a bicycle almost every day for the past 36 years. He owns six bikes — for summer riding, winter riding, everyday commuting and everything in between. But not one was exactly right. Penn needed the perfect bike.

He writes about his quest to build that bike in a new book, It's All About the Bike: The Pursuit of Happiness on Two Wheels. "I should qualify that," Penn tells weekends on All Things Considered host Guy Raz. "It's my perfect bike. I wouldn't presume to imagine that it's anyone else's, and in fact I rather hope it isn't."

I caught the end of that story, thanks for reminding me to listen to the entire thing. Wasn't there a documentary on TV last year following the same story?

Yes, I heard that as well, and thought someone should post it here. I love how Guy Raz treated the whole thing as complete eccentricity, including the obligatory "what, you spent how much money on a BIKE?!?"

Guy Raz is not of the same caliber as Scott Simon, Susan Stamberg, Robert Seigel or Noah Adams. I guess I like C&V news radio too.

NPR, KPCC, all brains. Makes me smarter just listening, and drives my teen crazy.

I'm reading that book right now, just having started it a couple of days ago. Excellent so far!

Thanks for the link. I heard the interview last night. My kids were not impressed with the author who only owned six bikes. My kids thought my expertise far exceeded his based on numbers alone.
