Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

average weight of a male/female cyclist?

we all know the usual pro male cyclist is extremely thin [at least the ones I know!], but why does it seem most women carry more weight? Personally I think women do better with a bit more weight then to be as thin as their male counterpart.

I know they come in all sizes, but males seem to be all just quite thin.

what would you guess the average weight of a 5'5' pro cyclist lady to be?

//I meant pro/racing cyclist! one that is in a bike club and rides daily & trains.

The average male cyclist around here seems to be "212 headed to 190".

The ladies aren't saying.

I'm not sure I follow the question. "Average" is a tricky word. Are we talking about good cyclists? pros? average guy out on the MUP? The average I see on group rides and around town is north of 200 (like me). The women I see around all look pretty much perfect - that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The average male/female cyclist is pretty heavy. Way heavier than most male cyclists or female cyclists.

I reckon the average would be the combined weight of all cyclists divided by the total number of all cyclists - give or take...

You could rephrase your question:
"Please enter your name, sex, height, weight.Thank you"

For example:

El Pistolero
M
5'9"
140lb

Then collect the answers and put them into Excell spreadsheet.

Share the results with all of us and have fun reading the answers

You said it: the ones you know.
Extremely thin isn't good for power.
There's a guy in town who's pretty heavy looking and rides a mountainbike on clubrides ... the average speed of the ride is often above 21mph and he's often leading the pack or taking sidetracks over hills just for fun. He hammers everyone when it comes to raw power.
I know some pretty thin women who cycle very well too.

except for when you get pro's who are very strong and very light. Thats the winning combo right there.
