Unisalmon sighting
Blonde college-age woman on a unicycle, salmoning on a 45mph 4-lane in town, while talking on the phone.
Definitely going to turn the dash cam on when I go back through there in a bit.

So bicyclists are supposed to ride with traffic, but pedestrians are advised to walk against traffic.
So the question is, are people on unicycles considered bicyclist or pedestrians.

If I were a young blond who could handle a unicycle I'd be invincible. Please post your video all over so I can also be a rock star.

And what about scooter and skateboard riders? I've encountered both salmoning in the dark toward me, with me between them and the vehicles passing by. Once it was at a turning corner. Neither of them had any light.

1. Edit the video, with the 'Benny Hill' theme (actually 'Yackety Sax' by Boots Randolph) as an audio track.
2. Post to Youtube.
3.???
4. Profit!!!

I've seen some cool and amazing things done with a unicycle. Cruising at "roadie speed" isn't one of them. I used to get really annoyed with salmon, but decided to stop fighting it, and treat it as another thing to add to the defensive riding palette.

What about taillight? If they are going salmon, at least have a front light, so others (such as me in the above cases) and themselves won't be endangered. I was nearly hit by a passing car when trying to avoid the suddenly appearing salmon on scooter.

Some do and some don't, depending mainly on the saddle and sometimes the pedals. However, in traffic, front and back would be defined by the direction of travel.

You've been riding in NYC traffic long enough to know that "close" only counts in horseshoes.

since youre heading towards eachother, having lights is, imo, not needed; youre both looking the same direction, at eachother
and even ninja salmons dont have invisibility cloaks, they always have to come from somewhere

if youre swimming against the stream (most likey out of 'safety reasons (= aka no experience or dangerous situation)) there would be noone behind you, unless its salmon season, and then you wouldnt need that rear light anyway

I so miss the cold, stormy days that was not long ago, when I was the only one riding on the streets.

I grew up saying "close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades" it could be regional difference like ordering coffee in NYC and getting the blue and white cup with coffee, cream and sugar if you don't say black. (at least that was how it was when I lived in NYC back in the days when Blondie was playing at clubs with a $2 cover charge.
