Your Ride Reports - February 2021

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your Ride Reports - February 2021

If you are new to posting on this thread, or if you are new to cycling, we welcome you! If you are returning from a previous thread, we welcome you, too.

This thread is for anyone who rides a bicycle ... or unicycle, tricycle, tandem, etc.

Are you an experienced road cyclist? Do you bike to work? Do you pull your children to the park? Do you ride weekends? Do you spin at home or in the gym? Is Zwift your thing? Do you race crits, ironman, or centuries? Touring? Audax/Randonneuring?
Or are you just starting out and remembering how much fun you had biking when you were a kid?

There are no set challenges - this is a mixed-ability / mixed-experience / everyone welcome group.

Just pick the target that you would like to achieve this month and post updates throughout the month as you work toward your target. We love seeing photos of your rides and hearing all about them.

Given the current situation many of us will be cycling solo or indoors. Don't feel alone! Share your accomplishments with us.

Well, we are still in summer mode here in Southern California. I took advantage of our dry weather pattern and did my harbor ride twice this week for lunch. This weekend is supposed to be warm so I am sure I will be out and about on one of my bikes!

A combination of Zwifting and outside road riding for me.
It's been unusually chilly for this time of year, but Sunday is supposed to be mid-fifties, so my neighbor and I are hoping to get a few miles in before the Stupid Bowl.
Meanwhile, I've been exploring some new-to-me routes in Watopia.

I'd like to say I look this good IRL. I'd be lying if I did.

Saturday I did my S. Tampa ride for 41 miles. Ran into a higher volume of traffic that was probably due to the Super Bowl.

Sunday morning was a washout. A strong storm front moved through. Later in the day a trainer I ordered was delivered. I messed around with setting it up and testing it. I hope to use it on days when the weather is bad or I just want to hop on for an hour to burn off some energy after work. Not sure if I will like it so I got a relatively inexpensive model.

My area of New Jersey this month has become the land of the ice and snow (with apologies to Led Zep).
I've had zero saddle time thus far, but the snow is melting and the weather is looking better, so I am hoping to get in a 100km Permanent this week.

EDIT: I got my Millville 100km Permanent in 2/24/21, but it was more difficult than it should have been. I am hoping that is due to having received my Covid-19 vax #1 less than 48 hours prior.

I got in a my Davis Is. ride three Thursdays ago for 27 miles. Then a rainy weekend got me to try out my new trainer. I have no idea what my effort was, but I did about 3 1/2 hours for the weekend. Last weekend it was cold in the mornings, so I went out early afternoon. Weather was great except that it was really windy and I'm in crappy shape. I did 27 miles or Saturday and 32 miles on Sunday. Yesterday I did another 27 mile Davis Is. ride. This was the first time I felt good on a ride in a while.

First full weekend of riding in a while. Weather was nice, if not getting a bit hot already. On Saturday did my 41 mile ride to Picnic and Davis Is. Sunday did the same ride in reverse direction.

Managed 445 miles total for February. Pretty good considering the colder weather and shorter days. Longest ride was 85 miles.
