Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

1986 Trek 2000 Red White and Blue

Hello

I brought, way back when, a great Red White and Blue, Trek 2000 with a Dura-Ace 7400 Groupo. At one point the dropout cracked and the Dealer replaced the frame with a purple one. Now that I'm riding it again, I'm discovering that getting replacement parts is no picknik so i thought to myself that maybe I'll try to pick up another used Trek 2000 and maybe get lucky and find another Red White and Blue Frame in addition to being stocked with parts.

Anyone have any ideas? I can't even find a photo of the original bike on the internet, which I think is weird because the marketing of the bike was huge and the frame's paint job was a looker and unique.

^^^^ I think that's the point. The frame was replaced. That fork came off the mystery R/W/B bike frameset.

Or do you mean that fork doesn't look like it came from an '84 Trek?

1986 Trek 2000, Red, White, Blue fade

11 years later and I found this thread. I am the original owner of a 50cm (yep, that small). It was ordered and built to my specs in Southern CA during one of the RAAM races. The bike is in pristine condition. I haven’t rode it in a couple years, but when I would take it out, people would stare and ask a ton of questions. Still has all the original Dura-Ace components, Mavic MA 40 rims which were quite popular, plus all the other hot items at the time. Still an excellent riding bike.

7400 DA isn't really hard to find(except new hoods). What parts do you need?

I know. IT is working on it but it will be a while. However, each post still shows its post date.

Which requires reading and paying attention. Do people do that on internet forums?

This is not correct. You can see the date and time of any post before you reply. It is right above the posters User Name.

The Original Date that you used to be able to see from the main page of any forum is what IT is working on.

to the guy who messaged me “how much?” for the bike I mentioned in this thread 12 years ago, you may be surprised to find that it sold....about 12 years ago. Good luck on your search. Also, check the date of the posts when making an inquiry.

PS- I can’t reply to the message because I don’t have enough posts.
