That pic ^^^^^^ could be in the margin next to the dictionary definition of "beausage".

I have three vintage Treks that are 22.5" - been thinking of trying a 24" to get the 'classic' look of about 4" of seat post exposed. My 22.5" frames have around 6" of seat post showing.
This one is a 24", which should work fine with my 34" inseam. Most of the frames with "square" dimensions are a compromise for me. A 22" frame is a bit too short on the top tube, and a 24" frame is a bit of a reach from the saddle to crank.
If I have to choose, I'll choose the latter and move the saddle down below what would be considered "proper".

1992 Trek 950

I recently rebuilt my 1992 Trek 950. It came to me with some so-so v brakes (origin 8) and mountain bike shift levers that gave up the ghost. I rebuilt it with Tektro CR 720 cantilevers, kool stop pads, thumb shifters, a trekking bar, and continental travel contact 26 x 1.75 tires. The wheels, derailleurs, headset and stem are all original.

I really, really like this bike. I find the trekking bar very comfortable and the conti tires are excellent. I like riding a vintage MTB on the paths and gravel roads near my home once fall starts.

^^^^^ Nice, one of the last lugged USA bikes. For modern brakes, those Tektros look.... right.

My latest fixer-upper: 1983 700. I've posted a thread here somewhere on C&V going through the rebuild but somehow missed the opportunity to post it here. It's all Superbe and a little Superbe Pro. One of my favorite rides!

I heard someone's theory on this and there may be some truth to it: The people who bought the higher end models bought them to be ridden as tools. The people who generally bought the lower models were testing the waters, so to speak, and after a season might've hung theirs from the rafters where they stayed for decades. My 400 series was near perfect while my 410 went through quite a few alterations. And the wear from use seems to be in all the right places. At least that's what it looks like to me.

I've only seen a handful so for everyone else my post should be taken as anecdotal. Who knows though; the next five Treks may blow my agreement with that surmise...ation? out of the water.

it's all conjecture...

Thanks! This is my first long-term use of trekking bars. They're really comfortable (better and more hand positions than flat bars with bar ends) and easy peasy to install on a vintage MTB.

My ‘78 Ice Blue 514 has had its wheels ridden off. The paint is not happy, but the rest of it is 🙂

This morning I parked it next to a much younger sibling, a 520. No idea the year of the 520...

Did you really get that stand for six bucks?

Oh - yeah - one of the most beautiful Treks ever made, and def. one of the sharpest still in service.

Very nice.

That vintage saddle is in excellent condition.

Are those 'Jim Blackburn' racks front and rear?

What size tires?

Thanks.

This kinda looks like a sweet ratrod. I had a Trek 500 that came out looking similarly. Nice build. Love the hubs and crank.
