Cannondale downtube shifter mount fix?

I saw this discussed in prior threads. I am looking at a Cannondale where the right side downtube shifter is stripped. I assume the original part from Cannondale in this photo is now unavailable. I see there is the part from Nova but they are closed for a couple weeks. Does anyone know if this Nova part in the link works for Cannondale? I know it needs adhesive, etc. Thank you.

Sounds like you just need to sand to the correct radius

I had the same issue.
I just ran a bolt straight threw the shifter and boss to the other boss.
Worked well.

Thank you. I was considering that. I haven't purchased the bike yet, or even seen the shifter....just wondering what I may be getting into. Bike is certainly cheap enough.

Do you plan to use downtube shifters or others like barends or brifters? If not downtube shifters, then you can bolt a pair of Shimano downtube cable stops to the frame using a long #10-32 bolt and nut through the cable stops and frame.

I was hoping to stay with the downtube shifters.

I would wonder what other problems are lurking. I know vintage Crackandfails have a huge cult following and know people who own them and love them but sometimes little problems could be a sign of things to come. Don't sink a ton into a frame that could be less than ideal once you own it.

For the price, the parts on it are worth more than he is asking. So I really can't lose attempting a fix on the frame.

Ok if good parts in good condition than that could be worth it but again with bikes like that it is good to be cautious.

There is this Ebay seller who makes custom replacements for this type of assembly for Cannondales etc.

A #10-32 bolt is very close to an M5x0.8mm in diameter and thread pitch. Get a 75mm or 100mm long M5 bolt. Drill out the cable stops' mounting holes to clear the M5 bolt and pass the bolt through one stop, through the frame and out through the other stop. Add a nut to the protruding end, tighten it securely and use some Loctite on it. Trim off any protruding bolt length and file the cut end smooth.

Perfect explanation, thank you.

Just wondering why you do not keep the M5 ?

I'm not sure what you are asking. Why drill out the stops to clear the M5 bolt? You can't thread both stops onto the bolt and get them both tight at the same time. At least one has to be a slip fit.
