I can also add that you're not limited to using it on a bar end:

Well, I just emerged from that rabbit hole. Great stuff, and I didn't spend any money, but it's good to know what's out there. I hadn't heard of S-Ride derailleurs and cassette until this week. The derailleur is featured on a youtube channel called Path Less Pedaled. The reviewer said it's OK but the bolts are made of crappy metal.

I'm using a Sanyo dynamo hub, and it's my second. This Panasonic looks to be the same thing. It makes a little more drag than other brands but that doesn't really matter to me. It vibrates at 20 or 22 mph, but so what. If you think you might want such a hub, you should grab it now.

Those IRD Cadence II rims are a good deal if you can deal with low spoke count. They are a Kinlin XR19W. I picked up a pair to lace up for my wife. I'll triplet lace the rear to a 32h hub and lace the front to a 24, probably 2x but maybe radial.

I almost have her convinced that her aluminum Lemond lacks a soul so I'm building her up something special in lugged steel. I needed a fun set of wheels for it.

Picked up a pair of the Vitesse SL 33mm tires (only blackwall, but more money for other bike things, at least that's what I keep telling myself). Still working on the bike, but hand mounted easily on Hunt rims (Conti 4 seasons were a PITA to get on and even get off), tossed in some Latex tubes for hopefully supple riding. Someone recently mentioned the EX being nice tires, maybe RiddleOfSteel ? And it was about that time for me, so I went ahead and pulled the trigger.

FYI, the $25 Foxeye Dynamo head and taillight combo I linked earlier arrived from China yesterday. It came with mounting bracket and tailight wire with connectors. Plugged it in to the Shimano hub and lit up nice and bright. Aluminum headlight housing; seems to be decent quality. Pair this up with the Sanyo hub, can’t get much more economical than that!

Just when you think your out... They pull ya back in.....

So a box full of dynamos showed up at my door....

Then the internet helpfully points out that Chain Reaction is blowing out those B+M retro headlights....

(dont bother looking, I cleaned them out at $18 each)

Oh, Wait what's that... https://www.wiggle.com/busch-muller-...-n-front-light

Wow that was fast. I swear there was at least one in stock when I posted. Or are they really the same seller?

All this discussion is making me want to try dynamo lighting with these hubs. As an occasional wheel builder, would I be a fool to pass up the price of these hubs?

This was a good deal for me because I have a fleet of bikes that I want to rig for lights. I thought about adding a disk brake hub to my order to build up for my Big Dummy kid hauler, but held off because a savings of $30-50 on a bargain dynamo as part of a wheel build on a heavy rig moving live cargo, might turn out to be pound foolish..

Yes. Many of us who have dynamo lights say we were foolish not to start using them sooner. You will see why.

@Spaghetti Legs, I hadn't heard about those foxeye lights. Very interesting. Let us know how they work. I have a Taiwan-made Dosun headlight which wasn't cheap. It seems unavailable now except on a certain Masi bike. It's very sturdy but the beam is a bit narrow.
