Any jersey buyers guide?

I am about 245 and am 6' tall... Was thinking XXL since I generally wear XL.

Thoughts?

They're all different, just buy them from a place where you can try them on or a place where you can return them...

Some brands run large (performance, Canari, some pearl izumi) and you probably want to look for club fit vs race fit or euro fit.

I'm 6'2", 215# and usually wear XL or XXL depending on the brand.

+1 They are all different. One brands XXL is a different brands XL.

I have some that are XXL and some that are XXXXXXXXXXXXXL. Damn shirt makers think that fat guys in skin tight jerseys look good... lol

Each manufacturer runs different and many have two or more different "fits" within their lines. You could be anything from XL to XXXXXXL depending on manufacturer, cut and your personal fit preferences.

I just bought a Canari (I REALLY like their stuff) and got a full zip XL because with an L on me you could count my chest hairs.

To give you a clearer picture of fitment: Robin Williams in bike shorts with no shirt on.


I am 6' and 250 currently and the jersey is snug fitting, has it loose spots but also cannot be described as above.

That's the hotness right thurr! I know the feeling, given my Polish heritage I usually look like an overstuffed pierogi with chest hair sticking out at the seams with bread rolls at the back. Working on fixing that however.

Don't try to guess. You really need to try a bunch on in the store and find a brand that fits you before ordering more on the internet. I suppose you could order from an online vendor with a good return policy but that gets expensive when you're paying shipping both ways. I'm not even a clyde and I've tried on at least a dozen brands this year and found exactly one jersey that fits me. I might be a little picky but when I'm dropping $75 on a glorified t-shirt I want it to fit right.

I bought a few jerseys from ebay. Expect them to run 2 sizes smaller than what most shops sell. The chinese are trying to squeeze the breathe out of us.

Competitive Cyclist generally has a fit guide associated with each clothing item and brand. They are also pretty good about including the "cut" in their description. I have found the info to be pretty accurate. Even if you don't buy there, it can be a helpful resource.

Do you have a tape measure? Just measure your chest at the widest part and buy the size that comes closest on the size chart.

The only things I can add are:

1) To increase the likelihood of a good fit on an internet purchase: If you have a t-shirt that you like the fit of, measure it from armpit to armpit with the t-shirt flat on a table. Compare it to the same measurement that the online vendor should include include with his online listing.

2) If you have a big stomach, consider getting a jersey with no elastic in the waist. They aren't all that common but they are out there.

3) If your choice is between two sizes, the bigger size is usually the best choice.

4) 'Recreational' or 'Loose' cut jerseys fit more like a t-shirt with usually no taper to the waist. 'Club' cut have a small amount of taper to the waist. And race cut have quite a bit of taper and are designed to fit skin tight.

The sizing of Loius Garneau jerseys is all over the place. I've bought a few through Chainlove (formerly Bonktown) and have some where a medium fit me, but others where I needed a 2x. I normally wear a 1x in normal sized clothing.

As previoulsy stated, knowing your armpit to armpit measurement helps. Sizing guides on web sites are not always accurate, but they are better than nothing.
