Not sure which I hate more fog or wind. It's really put a cramp in my riding. I'll look out the window see the trees blowing and go eat pie.

It's not just you. It has been breezy. But I'm still out riding.

That's this thing you mention called a "tailwind"?

It's not you.

The thing that's messing me up is that it's a north wind more than it usually is this time of year.

Big northerly winds are pretty normal in the spring here in Santa Cruz. There have been a couple of mornings I rode up the hill to work where the headwind was worse than the 800 foot climb. Puts a crimp on my sailing plans too, I don't like sailing in northerly winds much. May tends to be the windiest month of the year down our way. The June gloom will be here in no time.

Good for you I'm a little less dedicated. It's not so much the working harder I mind, it's the getting pushed around, especially on hills.

I've been riding the MUP that passes under the San Mateo bridge, been getting sprayed by the bay.

My commute speed has dropped dramatically on the way in. But the way home? Oh yeah!

Compared to Santa Ana winds, it's not that bad.

On a side note. I still can't believe it rained on Monday. Anyone else remember last time it rained in June?

I noticed its much more breezy here in the peninsula lately, but the winds are more calm early in the morning and that's when I try to get my ride in.

Are you referring to the FC levee? I'm out there every morning before getting to work.

Yes.

Last June. A couple of days, as I recall. The jokes were "June-uary" and "June-tober."

I just googled "FC levee" and that looks right. It goes north from the bridge past the kite school. I've been riding in the evening before dusk. I know the kite folks have been enjoying the weather! Riding in the AM sounds much smarter, but too many early morning meetings for me.

Just get out and ride. You won't get used to riding in the wind if you don't do it.

That's right, if we wait for good weather, we'd lose fitness.

I had my friend complaining the other day.. it's something of a joke among my riding buddies that when you ride with me, expect headwinds the entire time, his complaint was I can outride any of them in my sleep since I put up with those headwinds and still do my 50 mile rides..somehow this made him mad even though I was drafting for him the whole time.. the strangest things.

The kite guys have the 5 mph slow cone zone out now. It can be an obstacle, when they're walking and carrying their parachute on the path. The wind toward the evening is great for them.

Good thing I'll be riding in El Dorado Hills! The winds up there aren't supposed to be as bad as they will be down here in The Windy City, er, Sacramento.

It was blowing pretty hard on Mt Diablo today. Cold at the top and I had to be more cautious than usual on the descents. I rode it three times anyhow.

Maybe if you did not live on a hill, "steeping" outside would not be so disorienting.
