61cm CF Fuji Team Issue Frame: $100
Neuvations w/ new Conti Ultra Race tires & spare 8 speed cassette: $200
Tools, $25
105 9sp 5500 drivetrain/brake group, $150, Look 247 pedals, $0.00, new BB retail at LBS, $60, Ritchey 46cm bars: $0.00
Stand: $80
Nothing but a saddle, stem, chainrings, cassette, and maybe some CF bars and wrap--- these $170 Zipps?:
N+1 = priceless!
So I'm $410 in so far for a team issue cf. Maybe another $300 to do it right. Still a bargain. But will it be hot...???

Well, it's not too difficult to find a hot bike around $2k, say Ultegra level or equivalent, I'd say the challenge is below $1.5k

I traded a bike I paid $200 for (granted it was a good deal and worth more than $200) for this colnago that originally had campy SR. Ebayed the campy SR parts for more than I paid for the new veloce group from ribble. Had to pay to ship the other bike for the trade, buy tires, a cassette, and bar tape and that's pretty much it. The wheels were a freebie but they're temporary and will be replaced with ones that will probably double the cost of the bike... lol...

Well, since Standalone played this way I'll give 'er a shot:
2001 Klein Quantum, 5500 9 speed triple group, local CL, $550
2011 Shimano 5700 Group, new, eBay, $500 shipped:
Mavic Ksyrium SL wheelset, used (close to mint), eBay, $340 shipped:
Ritchey Carbon Pro seatpost, eBay, $50 shipped
Ritchey Pro stem, $50 shipped
Ritchey Pro EvoCurve bars, $40 shipped
Shimano 105 pedals: $55 shipped
Shimano Pro Turnix TU saddle: $50 shipped.
Elite Patao white cages (2): $33 shipped
Fizik black bar tape: $20
Sum total: $1688
Sale of 5500 group: $275
Sale of saddle from Klein: $50
Current TOTAL: $1688 - $325 = $1363
Still have original bars, stem, and seatpost to sell from the Klein, maybe $50 which brings me down to somewhere around $1300. I could sell the Rolf wheelset too and maybe trim another $150 or so off the price but I think I'll keep them for backups and the trainer tire.
For this frameset, group, and wheelset and some (IMHO) nice cockpit bits I think I've done pretty good. Budget? Compared to most, yes.
I'll keep the Bontrager tires for now and wait until PBK or Ribble has a killer sale on GP4000s...unless someone can talk me into a different tire
Still waiting on the stem (delivers tomorrow) to complete the bike but here's what she looks like for the most part.
Hot or not??
(please excuse the stem, just temporary! )

2007 Fuji SL1, second time I have owned this (exact) frameset. Have right around $2,000 in it.

Pretty hot. I think I can get close to this look minus the Sram Force, but that SL frame does look a lot like my '05.

I had two of the Team Issues like yours, very nice framesets. They do have a big problem with cracking on the non-drive side chainstay near the bottom bracket so keep an eye out. In 2007 I bought two of the SL1 framesets, one for racing, one for training. Once I was told that my riding days were over I sold them both. I sold one to a buddy of mine, one to his dad. A few months ago my buddy upgraded so I ended up buying this frameset back from him. It is still the lightest frameset that Fuji has ever made.
