70s frame for black dura-ace

Hi gang. I am slowly pulling together a collection of black Dura-Ace 7100. The mid 1970s is just a bit before my introduction to cycling so I would like some input from the seasoned experts. What would be a period correct or appropriate frame to pair with that group in the mid to late 1970s? I know that Panasonic and maybe Lotus probably had a bike so equipped at that time. For example, If I could find a mid 70’s Masi frame, that would not really feel right with DA. What would be a good fit? I look forward to your replies. Thank you!

A pearlescent orange Kabuki Diamond Road was in the bike shop with these 1st gen Dura Ace black components and looked amazing. Also I think a 1970’s California Masi would be a perfect match for these Dura Ace black components. AFAIK quite a few of the California built Masi Gran Criteriums were built up from day 1 with Japanese components.

Well I'm not a huge fan of it but it could go on any frame that fits the timeline, it was a big deal and you could see it on anything BITD.

I would not hesitate to put it on whatever you see fit, there was no wrong answer when it came out.

Flandria. They were the brand to introduce Shimano in the pro peloton.

Walter Godefroot gave them their first pro win in 1973.

In the later 70's, high end Koga Miyata models like Pro racer and Pro Luxe used Dura Ace 7100. See attachment.

Mid 70’s is early for black parts also. I would just go with what is available within the style of preference ride desired.

I put the black DA calipers and hubs with black rims on my Ron Cooper. It’s a grey frame, I ended up going back to the grey hubs and silver rims, and left the calipers on. It wasn’t the hubs the neg me it was the black rims that axed the idea. I think that stuff looks better on a frame of colors rather than the neutral grey of my Cooper.

No wrong answer here, if you find a late-70's frame to match.
We used to scoff at fellow racers that went outside Campagnolo Nuovo or Super Record.
Then I rode an early Dura Ace and discovered it shifted better - both front & rear.
Even the wheels spun more smoothly. The Japanese invasion began!

Do you have clamp on shifters or do you need a frame with those annoying round shipmano shifter bosses?

I do have clamp on shifters. Hoping for a frame that has little in the way of braze-on fittings.
This project is all in the early stages. Really trying to establish a direction to devote my collecting energy rather than picking up the next shiny object I see. Not in any hurry at all.
I have quite a few decent 80s bikes to ride and take care of. Nothing from the 70s yet.
Lot’s of great ideas posted that I have not considered. Very thankful for all the input!

One summer in the early 80s I worked at a small shop that carried Panasonic. Drooled over that bike or the 80s version of it in ice blue.
