OSM Maps for Garmin 810. Who uses them?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

OSM Maps for Garmin 810. Who uses them?

I'm sure that this has been covered, but has anyone had recent experience with the OSM maps (available from RidewithGPS or via DC Rainmaker) on the Garmin 810?
Do these maps work as well as the ones for purchase from Garmin?
Can these maps easily do turn by turn?

Thanks,

Peter

I use OSM maps on my 800. My brief post on it is here:

The maps I've used have been totally satisfactory. Wonderful in fact, especially the European MTB maps which I used for road touring. I also have contour maps for hiking.

Caveat: My Garmin maps are a few years old.

I find that the OSM maps have better data regarding bike paths and trails inaccessible to cars. Garmin's maps have better detail about things like restaurants, cafes, hotels/motels, but nag you to update after the first year. Both lend themselves to turn-by-turn cue sheets.

OSM maps took me some bad ways in my neighborhood (either where there is no possible way to go the way it wanted me to go, or just dumb things, like through a mall parking lot). So... I got the garmin maps.

For the most part I just download routes to my garmin, so it probably doesn't matter anyway. if I need to actually navigate because I'm lose, I'll use my phone and stream it to a bluetooth headset.
