All original 1972 Schwinn Paramount P15-9 question
So I picked up this Schwinn Paramount with all original components. I plan on cleaning her up and riding it for the spring season and into summer. I was wondering what exactly this bike would be worth as is?

I'll let others speak to the value (calling on @Scooper) but you will want to do a lot more than just clean it up before riding esp. if you want to protect your investment in the bike. This is an old bike and you will want to do a complete overhaul (headset, bottom bracket, hubs, pedals) and replace all the consumables (at least the cables and probably the cable housing and chain as well). Also some Brooks proofide for the saddle would be a good idea as well.
This is a beautiful bike. Nice pick and enjoy it.

Sorry, when I meant clean up that is where I was going with it. It will be torn down, cleaned, and greased. Brooks cream already applied

Lose the Sugino dust caps please. ( sell them off though)
The bike appears nice.
Bigger bikes like this take a discount.
Weinmann rims?

On ebay, I'd guess ~$1,000 - $1,200. On CL somewhat less; how much less depends on your local market.

It has the 1973 decal scheme. Has it been repainted?

L7267 is a November, 1972 serial number, but you're right about the seat tube decals. My December 1972 P15-9 has the Olympic rings seat tube decal.

I just noticed that it doesn't have the olympic decal. Any way to tell if it was a repaint? It appears to be opaque blue which from i researched was a color option. Also the shop I bought it from said when it came in it looked as though it has been sitting around for a very long time. Overall it looks to be in great condition. The decal s stumping me now

There was some confusion between 1972 and 1973 Paramounts. A Schwinn Dealer News Flash Bulletin dated 11/7/72 stated that at least 600 1972 Paramounts "will be carried over into 1973" due to "several key components" being "tied up in an airline cargo handlers strike in Milan". It went on to state that "Those units which cannot be shipped this year will be carried over into 1973 and will have production priority over next year's orders". From this I gather that the frames had already been produced so those late '72 models may have been actually built up in '73, and some may have been painted in '73 colors/decals.

This may hurt the value a little as some people may assume it's been re-painted. If you could get a copy of that news flash it may be helpful for re-sale.
I wondered if something like that may have been the case considering the late '72 manufacturing date as the 1973 catalog shows 1972 paint and decal patterns; so why not the other way around.

As long as you are going to take everything apart and clean, I would swap out the twin stick shifters and the grand turismo. Keep them for originality purposes, but swap them out either for barcons or downtube shifters. A crane derailleur would also be a correct swap.

A few hours of cleaning, waxing, and polishing and she's starting to look really good. Didn't realize how clean she was under the age and grime. Still working on here, but making progress

Just a reminder- if you're thinking about selling it here on BF, you'll be needing to check out this sticky first https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...ead-first.html
