bought a bike today from a pawn shop

Picked up a Specialized hard rock sport today for $25. Complete but has a few issues. Struggles go into hi gear on the front set. Derailer is out of adjustment i think. And tires are mis matched. Mtb tire on front and pavement/touring tire on back. I was hauling hay today and stopped at the pawn shop in town and seen it sitting there. Had to bungee on the back of the load of hay. I am sure some motorists got a kick out of that. Might be the beginning of a brand loyalty joke. Probably going to take bike to tye lbs and have it gone through and tuned up. Any Thoughts on my purchase??

I had a '96 and it was silver. I think the '95s were as well.

You got a steal. Clean and lube, adjust, make sure wheels are true and brake pad surface is effective. Then zip, and have fun.

Yeah, a Hardrock that works for $25 is like a magic barn-find, or a gift from the yard-sale goddess. I'd fix it up and thrash it--which at my age and condition means use it to get groceries and maybe meander down some smooth trails.

If it fits, ride it forever. If it doesn't, flip it for a huge (relatively) profit.

With V brakes but no suspension that's a late 90's model. Looks like this one...

1998 Specialized Hardrock Sport - BikePedia

DB chromoly, 21 speed with a freehub, V brakes, solid looking bike! Plasticky shifters and derailleurs, that looks like the only mark against it, and NBD so long as they work

Beats the heck out of a Walmart bike! And for less cash too!

I have a Specialized Hardrock Sport FS from.... let's say 96 or 97. (FS, or front suspension was a set of rock shox).

I've since added several other bikes to the stable - but it's still one of the most "fun" to ride. It's my only true mountain bike, and it's GREAT.

Totally worth $25 - great deal. Get that thing tuned up and love it!
