Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Winter is over. It is time to loose some weight.

How many lbs/kg do you add in winter? Do you have a special program to lose weight?

I add at least 5lbs. I do nothing special about it, but when the hot weather is here the weight goes down by itself

Offically spring doesn't start until March 20th. But, no, I have actually been losing weight. Lost 5 lbs. I think it's the blood pressure meds I started taking a couple months ago.

Awesome!

Seriously?

Winter is the time to do base and drop a bit of weight. Spring time is for racing. Summer is for SR. Fall is for Cross.

Rode through the winter so I didn't add any lbs. In fact, I might have even lost a few.

Can't you save it for the ride? That's what I do.

I rode through the winter and still gained weight. That has a lot to do w/ quitting smoking. I'm good to go now and lungs are in good shape for riding season.

I gained 3 pounds. Which was a pleasant surprise. I thought I had put on about 10.

My goal was to focus on base and dropping pounds during the off season tempered with simply maintaining weight through the holidays. Lost 10 pounds since November. Probably loose 5 more racing. No diets, just more calories out than in b/c of all the riding this year's warm winter has provided.

For some people, winter is the time for holidays and travel obligations and having babies. Spring time is for working on the house and taking the kids outside and helping with the baby. Summer is for taking kids to the pool and trips to the beach. Fall is for yard work, getting the house ready for winter and getting the kids situated in pre-school. All the while there is work, and then cycling fits in there somewhere when everything else is done.

If one is able to re-prioritize cycling to the number one slot in one's life, that is wonderful. These people are also often known as "racers". Many people wish they could do this but cannot. These people are often known as "cyclists". As a cyclist, my goal in winter is to ride whenever possible and keep from gaining any weight. But like the OP I often find that come springtime, I have a few to lose.

i was at about 168lbs last summer.
i was off the bike for nearly 6 months following some knee injuries
gained about 15 pounds from being unable to run or bike (i suppose i could have joined a gym, but the $$$)
split two pairs of suit pants that i had taken in over the summer to celebrate my then slimmest-ever body
weather got nice
went for a ride, stretched too hard afterwards, threw out my back, trip to the ER...
another week in bed pumped full of valium and anti-inflammatories

that was my winter.
my spring plan is just to bike a lot.

Zero# and my only "special plan" is to ride, ride, ride. If anything I could stand to gain a few in muscle. I'm one of those "lucky" high metabolism types who loses weight rather than gaining when less active. I spent nearly 2yrs of the bike with injuries and lost almost 25#. I'm at a great climbing weight but w/o the muscle/power to make it ideal. So yeah, my plan is to gain 5-10# and shift my muscle/body fat ratio a bit.
