Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

They’re awesome. Recovery places have them too. Actually, we have a semi-ridiculous amount of recovery and PT equipment.

gotcha, one of the reasons I only did 20 today, even though I did feel fine once I was on the bike. This schedule is tough though, I can only ride when I am home so I want to ride when I am home and ride hard. I’ll see if I can dig out the foam roller.

Logging is okay fun if it’s going towards something. I don’t need anymore flight time and I don’t plan on going any where else in my career. We pull to the gate and parking break is set, last thing I care about doing is trying to figure out how long that flight was.

Chicken & egg/feed-forward thing with the sleep. I think overtraining disrupts sleep and bad sleep is slow.

Noticed something new this morning, my legs have gotten big enough that when I pedal they rub against the top tube. Doesn’t bother me, just never happened before.

There is absolutely nothing harder than going Vo2 Max on a TT bike. The first time I did a 10' interval of 40" on, 20" easy, I pretty much though I walked into a new weird world. It wasn't enjoyable, and it still isn't, but I've learned to accept the power isn't road bike power, but it's very slowly going up.

It seems like that’s first symptom of over training for me. My legs get like this restless feeling and it makes it hard to sleep. I usually end up on the floor so I don’t keep the wife awake.

For me, it's a dull ache that's just uncomfortable enough to make me restless. Laying on my stomach was often the best - quads were the primary complainers and just the body weight compression helped. But, again, since getting on the foam roller routine, it hasn't been an issue, and this is with a much higher training load.

Funny thing with the wives - mine had started sleeping on the very edge of her side of the bed because of my movement.

This summer kinda turned into a ****-show (I mean, whose didn't, I know) and I had to prioritize some other things, so no, not yet. It's part of the reason I popped back in here- motivation since things have settled down a bit and I'm getting back (again) into the swing of things. If this tropical storm doesn't hit us dead-on this weekend, I should have the time to turn the box o' parts into something cool.

Snow can also really encroach on the sides of the roads, making them very narrow in the winter - I don't like battling over that with cars. Between the two of these factors, yeah, I usually have two-four months of indoor riding per year.
In addition, the amount of daylight is limiting. During weekdays can both leave and return from work in the dark. Starting to get to the mid-August where staying late at work is limiting if one doesn't want to ride in the dark.

Ah, yeah things haven't quite gone the way I imagined they would either. Glad to hear you're getting back into it.

My cycling preferences actually have changed quite a bit over the last couple of months so I think I'll be embarking on a resto-mod quite like yours if a frameset I've got a lead on works out

Dang the V35 is quick.

My dad's flying down to Dallas to pick up my brother, 2.5 hours in and he's just crossed the AR border.

I know. After all the Saturn dealers closed I got to work on a ton of them. Was never really a fan of the old buzz-bomb 1.9. Simple, but meh. Then there was a butt-load of the hybrid Vue things to deal with. First, the leaking hybrid batteries, then the recall of the batteries leaking or not. I accidentally shorted something and fried the 200 amp fuse in the rear cargo area of one and balls of red hot molten metal rained down, burning holes in the carpet. Luckily the car was hammered so the carpet didn't matter.

That might have been my biggest screw-up with an electric or hybrid car. I did once take the battery out of a Volt without disabling it but didn't get shocked.

All the later model Saturns were just re-badged Chevrolets, so familiar turf.

I just remembered they had that awful V-6, a Vauxall, I think. Oh, and the Astra. How could I ever forget the Astra. The only thing marketed by GM that had it's own language. You couldn't plug a Tech 2 into it and read data until you erased the Tech 2 and reloaded it with Astra specific programs. Ridiculous. Later lap-top apps had a program you could use with an interface device to talk to the Astra but it always needed to be updated when one of the cars came in, even to just read a code. Generic code readers would work, though.

So at least I shouldn’t feel weak for it. I had wondered if I should have the trainer bike set up as a roadie, but probably better to be in TT position for the easy parts and get on the horns for power. Microshift TT shifters were cheaper, too.

As I was riding through the valley a woman pulled out of her driveway on what I think is what Cannondale is calling its touring bike and said “tag” to me.
