This is my New 2014 Giant defy advanced 0 that i was able to buy with no wheels. Went out and purchased some avenger 25 wide X 40 deep avenger carbon clinchers (1500 grams) that fit well with my schwalbe one 25's that I run tubeless. I really wanted to get into the 2nd generation Ultegra DI-2 6870. Put Black prince pads, Ultegra brakes and Avenger carbon wheels brake very smooth. They are very close to an alloy clincher .

The bike weighs in (without seat or pedals) at 15.8 lbs. On the roads it is extremely responsive and shifts like a dream. Very smooth with the 25 tires that I run at 85psi rear and 80psi front (tubeless). Works well as my old man bike (55). The front head tube is a little taller and it works well for me in a riding position that is not quite as bent over.

Velovie's Vitesse 500

The review:
Velovie had a major Christmas sale from Nov through Dec of 2014, and I could not pass up the amazing prices. Initially, I wanted the Vitesse 300, but that frame in my size sold out. I opted for the pricier Vitesse 500, and overall I am very satisfied. The customer service and product quality-so far-have been excellent.

The sales reps did a good job of easing my concerns of buying a bike online. Who really wants to disassemble, repack and ship back a bicycle? Once the bike arrived, I was relieved that there was no visible damage to the bike and its parts during shipping, which was my main concern, because the padding appeared minimal to me. Though sturdy, the box itself did not have buffered walls. I would think, at the least, the box should have a double cardboard design, but perhaps this packing structure has worked consistently well for them.

Before I started to join the remaining parts, I looked for a manual of some kind, but none were found for the bike itself. This is my first carbon bike even though I have been riding for over 20 years, and I know that carbon-fiber can crack when over-torqued. Fortunately, I consulted the Parktools website for carbon to carbon torque requirement on a seatpost. I also contacted one of the Velovie’s sales reps to concur. They should probably include this information on the torque rating particularly for the Vitesse 500 even though it may be common knowledge, because it is one of their models with a proprietary seatpost.

After putting the bike together, I tested the drive-train, and noticed that both the front and rear derailleurs needed some adjustments, which was not a problem for me, because I like tinkering with bikes. After adjusting the derailleurs, I test rode the bike around the block. I noticed that the front brake would not stay in its alignment, and diagnosed that the problem is due to the length of the cable housing. My guess is that the same length of housing was used regardless of the frame size, and perhaps this makes the assembly faster during a busy Christmas sale season; however, the result is not ideal from both an aesthetic and functional perspective. The housing should dip downwards out of the handlebar wrap, but due to their length they inevitably reside in front of the stem like a web before curving, which you can see in one of the photos I attached. For the other cables, functionally is not a problem despite the length; however, for the front brake, the longer cable pushes down on the caliper causing the misalignment. Yes, I did lower the position of the stem from its standard height, but the problem was there even with a highest stack. I reset the position with my 13mm cone wrench, but the caliper eventually twists away from its correct place. Currently, this was the only problem I have experienced with the bike, which resulted in knocking down half a star, so you can see how picky of a customer I am. Considering the sale price (about $2890 holiday sale including Reynolds Wheels), I'll consider this minor quip as negligible. I can easily fix this by the time I need to re-wrap the bars with new tape, but that may be a while because I would have to buy new bar tape... I would also be tempted to re-install the entire cable and housing, and right now I just want to ride this thing, a lot.

For my own preference, I like the rough matte finish, the black lettering on the dark frame and it looks very close to the photos I saw of it on the Velovie website. From a certain distance, the bike appears to have a refined continuous tone of charcoal or black, but when seen up close the variance of the finish, I think intentionally left visible, does not hide that this is a carbon-fiber machine intended for hard riding.

In terms of performance, this machine is noticeably fast for me. Perhaps, I feel the difference because my other bike of 21 years is a 21 pound steel 1993 Specialized Allez Pro. I definitely climb faster with the Vitesse 500 with its 15.5 pound weight, and I felt faster on the flats as well. Its short wheelbase allows me to corner faster with a sharper turn radius, which I thought would lead to some twitchy handling on the descents, but it was stable going downhill on a winding road. Under a seasoned Pro-1/2/3, which is not me , I think the Vitesse 500 will do well on road races as well as criteriums.

Great looking bike, thanks for the review. Velovie's bikes look like a great deal, but some of the reviews I have seen mention poor fit and finish. Glad yours was 4.5 stars!
