On Michigan International Speedway in the slipstream of his dad’s Honda minivan, Ornée set what he believes to be a new world record for the fastest assisted 100 mile (160.94 km) ride – a distance covered in 2 hours 20 minutes and 46 seconds, at an average speed of 42.6 mph (68.6 km/h).
Maybe you don't like motorpaced racing, but there was no attempt to deceive us into thinking it was a "human powered vehicle" record.

Please, drafting & keeping pace with a motorized vehicle on a closed course without other moving traffic takes no great skills nor chutzpah. Lame record is what it is.

History or not, real or not, by definition "human powered vehicle" is meant to be propelled solely by human power,
not have another vehicle to provide shelter from wind resistance that require human power to overcome.
It's a different category of racing that require less "human power" overall to complete when drafting behind a motorized vehicle;
take away that leading motorized vehicle which provide shelter, that kind of "racing" would still be real.

I see that the Black Bear Gran Fondo stopped posting course records, but Chris held the old record at something like 28 mph (100 miles.) That may have been with a velomobile, but it was unassisted, and he was powering a 65+ pound vehicle up and down hills. Mile-a-minute Murphy broke 60 mph by drafting a special train car. I'm not impressed with that kind of record any more than I'd be impressed with one set on a stationary trainer. Yeah, there are 'records' for that, too.

I file this one under "Guinness Records" or "stupid human tricks". Cool, but to me personally it's about as cycling related as Evil Kneivil stunts are to racing cars or racing motocross bikes.
