Cedar Creek Park and Jones Beach
Anyone know if Cedar Creek Park is open for parking for access to the Jones Beach path?

was at the beginning of the week, if they've closed it I'm sure jones beach parking isn't and there is access using the walkway under the parkway to get to the theater. Can also park at Tobay

If it's not there's plenty of parking on local streets, so just ride in.
During the summer when the county is charging nonresidents for parking, many park at the LIRR station and ride the 1/2 to the park.
I do the path and ride from my house in Masapequa which is 6 miles away.

Pretty certain all Nassau County parks are open. I rode thru Eisenhower 2 weeks ago, it was very busy and folks were golfing.

"I made a few calls to the NYS Dept of Transportation Wednesday. I got a call back today,one of the holdups is awaiting for railings to be put in, due to Covid, progress has been slowed down in that regard. Also signage and pavement markings have to be put in then a inspection of the completed project. When I mentioned the possible concerns regarding the TOBAY& Gilgo entrances, he said he was aware of the concern but that wast holding the project up. I mentioned the Kaos Joe’s idea of speed bumps and pointed out the approximately half dozen crossings by the Massapequa Bike path, where cars and cyclists meet and as far has I knew there have been no issues. He said the contractual completion date is 3/28/21& he hoped it would be completed earlier. The Dept of Trans. web site lists the Estimated Substantial Completion Date as 12/28/20. (That means when the public would have use of the project."

SurferJoe asked if you can ride to Robert Moses. The answer is no as you cannot ride on the bridge from Captree to RM. You can ride the new path to Captree State Park, which is a different park and place from RM State Park

Shoot! You're absolutely right. I can't believe I call myself a Long Islander. I actually thought Captree State Park and Robert Moses Beach were both on the same side of the strip. Sorry.

I'm going to give this a try today for the first time. I'm having lunch in Long Beach and I'll continue on to Jones Beach after. Where do I park at Jones Beach?
Edit: I looked and it looks like field 5 would be best. But I had another thought, maybe I should start from Captree instead because of the wind. I'd ride into the wind first and then have it at my back heading east towards the car. It's kind of breezy here in Brooklyn at the moment and I know what it can be like at the shore. I'll consider my options when I'm at Long Beach.
One time I was taken to Long Beach (I have family there) by my sister and she was going back to Massachusetts direct from there and I put my bike in her car. The ride back was a blast because of a rare wind from the east. I wasn't just a breeze either, it was a wind, 15-20mph. I got back to Brooklyn quicker than the ride out in the car. I took the boardwalk in Rockaway too, the entire length, and in Riis Park. These usually slow you down a bit but there weren't many people out. East winds usually bring crappy weather.

Park at west end of field 6. The path goes under the parkway a that point.

Well I just got back. I parked at Captree and rode into the wind on the way to Jones. But as hard as it felt, when I turned around it wasn't much of a tailwind as it was coming from the northwest. The other thing is that there isn't even a millimeter of shade. I stopped at the first town beach looking for sunscreen but there was no store. The park employee got me his from his car. And there is no water either. It's great that there's a trail but I wouldn't ride it again.
And of course there is traffic going back to Brooklyn, I thought about going through Rockaway but that would mean driving through Long Beach again, Sunrise wasn't very promising so I ended up on Southern State and it was stop and go the entire way to the Cross Island.

No, no services/stores along this route. Theres water at Tobay and maybe at Captree, I didn't notice as I usually carry enough.
The 10 miles east of Tobay are more exposed as theres less vegetation it seems on the north side of the path, OTOH it means nice views of the bay, but this path is completely exposed so maybe not a good choice on a very hot day., or when the wind is from the West or NW.
Traffic on the Southern State ?, Sunrise is actually as fast between Freeport and the Belt if you do this again.

Depending on time of day there's many times I would suspect Jones beach, to Long Beach to the Rockaways is the fastest way to get into Brooklyn.

The biggest problem with that route is all the traffic lights through Long Beach, especially the west end. My dad lived in Long Beach and we'd try going home that way and it was tedious. To start at the far east end is more than I could bear. And then Rockaway isn't fast either. At least my car can drive itself, I put it on autopilot on the Southern State and it works really well in traffic. I can't do that on the streets.

But they are NOT talking about going over the bridge to Fire Island, only from the mainland to Captree. IIRC the bridge is only 2 lanes with no room for anything else.
