I look in here after a few months away and it is just like a daytime soap opera. Didn't miss anything.
As a cyclists who "runs" approximately 16,000 red lights and stop signs every year for the past 40 years I can tell you that it's pretty easy.
No matter if the light is red or green:
1. Look BOTH WAYS before you cross the street...even ONE WAY streets.
2. If you can't see, you CAN'T GO.
3. If you are NOT SURE, you can't go.
Friggin' rocket science to many cyclists apparently.

And apparently you still fail to grasp that every cyclist and location is unique, and it's a choice that can only be addressed by each individual in the moment of their situation.
There are times and places where I don't stop, but I don't presume to claim its correct, or safe for anyone else, and believe its irresponsible to do so..

Yes I agree, but for other cyclists that means obeying laws, and their technique is just as valid...for them...in their environment, which isn't ignorance, or lack of skill.

If stopping for every red is the safest thing to do, then that is what should be done. I am 100% in agreement. It is an individual decision. When we start letting OTHER PEOPLE make our safety decisions for us is when we get into trouble i.e., lawmakers who haven't ridden a bicycle since they were ten years old on the sidewalk in front of their parents home. My riding style, or some watered-down version of it, might be helpful to some cyclists out there if they don't have tender sensibilities about breaking laws that are not well thought out. But it is always up to them to sort through the existing information. It would be nice if they have ALL of the information at their disposal in my opinion. Running a red light is not necessarily a death sentence, and can be just the opposite at times.

Remember, these are Los Angeles County Sheriff’s claiming they had the green light.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is one of the worst in the country.
How often do we see race left out of public statements. So why did Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department include it in an initial report in this case?

And, other than P&R (perhaps foo), *what* relevance does this have to do with an incident that happened on the road (not in an LA County Jail) in 2017?

Same department of officers in both cases. But maybe you have an illusion that only the ones in the jail are bad. For the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the corruption was top down as shown.

Especially the ones that get run over by them and then the corrupt cops blame the cyclist.

I don't have as much of an issue with running red lights as I do with lack of proper lights and hi vis clothing. It seems that some people don't realize how difficult it is to see bicyclists in the dark!

Driving a 2500 lb car in traffic isn't safe at most speeds either, but it's hard to get it through some people's heads that they need to stop playing with the phone and watch the road while they're doing that too.

I've noticed during rush hour that a light can turn green for just a few seconds, then when you're in the middle of the street it turns back to red! Unintentional red light running!!! Everyone honks at you and u don't know wth just happened.

Perhaps the current administration in DC will roll back all of the automotive safety standards and give Darwin a fighting chance to relieve us of more of the offending phone users permanently.

I commute in the dark, one of many things I'm cautious about is phantom cars, those without headlights turned on.

Several times I've delayed a commute a half hour to get from twilight to full dark in hopes that, at least for the rural parts of the trip, the drivers who didn't turn their headlights on would have already hit something much larger and more destructive to the vehicles they have no business controlling.
