New stop sign in Tilden Park

It's been a couple weeks since I first encountered this. There's a new stop sign along Wildcat Canyon Road in Tilden Park at the road to the merry-go-round, Little Farm, Lake Anza, etc. (Not the intersection next to Grizzly Peak Blvd., the one halfway or so between Griz Pk and the Brazil Bldg.) Anyone know the back story on this?

It's really annoying on a bike. My guess is it has something to do with the less-than great sight lines turning left onto Wildcat, but I'm curious if anyone has more (meaning "any") info about this.
