Sounds a lot more interesting that her previous 10 miles out, 10 miles back, repeat 20 times a day for a year.

That is nuts. Also, Google Maps said it was not possible to ride the highway through the keys. I guess it is?

She followed the main highway. There's also the Old Seven Mile Bridge supposedly now for pedestrian and cyclist use (which was closed for repairs and I'm not sure if it has re-opened yet), but even there she used the main highway for vehicular traffic.

Amanda had a sag car following equipped with flashing rear caution lights.
Luckily I had my awesome support duo, my dad (Ricky), and buddy Chris (Killer Miller). Without them I definitely wouldn’t have performed as efficient or strong! Huge thanks to them both; they followed behind me in the car with rear flashing roof lights, and caution bicycle ahead signs, prepared and handed off all of my nutritional needs, and kept my spirits high.
That would help mitigate the risks on the highway.

Surprised Google says it's not possible. It's a highly traveled road by cyclists and has a decent bike lane 95% or more of the way.

Yeah, but in my experience a flat course often means you trade hills for headwinds, which are much more frustrating than hills (no coasting once you reach the top to get payback). As she wrote on her Facebook page:
With the wind blowing viciously from the south/southeast, I was happy to be on a Felt IA and have a Zipp 404 front wheel and Super 9 disc wheel. The headwinds and crosswinds would’ve have thrashed me much worse on any other set up.

Exactly, and she fought crosswinds and headwinds right up until 30-40 miles before the finish. The only thing more elevation would have changed in the outcome of the race is that she would have beaten the first place man by more than the 5 1/2 hours that she did.

I had an opportunity to meet her a couple years ago. She did a Zwift race in my shop. She is a really humble person and doesn't get the press she deserves.

Wow! Just...wow!
I checked the analysis to see about breaks. She hardly took any. Basically, 2.5 times more than my longest day ever.

I'm guessing you're Chris "Killer" Miller. If so, Kudos to you for supporting such a feat.

I once did 325 miles in 24 hrs, with zero SAG. Heck, I had a hard time just finding people willing to ride with me for a few hrs. at 1am, but a couple did show up. For some crazy reason, not everybody enjoys doing 26+ hr events.

That's quite an achievement! Congratulations, Amanda! Cheers!

I haven't been following Amanda since she beat Tommy Godwin's mileage record. Has she been doing other races?

Last August I had the opportunity to ride with an older gentleman, I've forgotten his name, who has done RAAM three times (once as part of a team... once practice for a solo race... and once as a solo race). He's training for a fourth now. So I heard quite a bit about what it's like; that is, I heard enough to assure me that this kind of racing is like nothing I have any experience with.

She's definitely been leading the occasional event on Zwift -- I've done several that she's led. Lots of fun, even if the Zwift setup is kind of odd for Q&A sessions during rides -- everyone can see the leader's messages, but the leader (and anyone else) can only see messages from people within a certain area around them, so those of us too slow to keep up with her pack couldn't ask questions. Still totally fun.
