Goodbye Oregon and Hello Idaho!!

Goodbye Oregon and Hello Idaho!! Another terrific day of riding. 76 miles from Vale Oregon to Boise Idaho.

First 25 miles were finished in a touch over an hour with a nice tailwind. But another flat followed by a second flat 20 miles later. The culprit of the first flat is in the picture below. I actually picked that wire up on the way into Vale as I had a slow leak overnight but didn't look for it before starting out.The tire was pretty spent anyway so it's been replaced with a new one. Riding on chip seal shoulders just chews up the rubber. Makes me really appreciate the generally clean and smooth roads we have back home.

I took about 20 miles of bike paths through Boise. It was a mixed bag. Nice to get out of the heavy traffic but I Had to backtrack a few times, there was a section closed, one section of dirt & gravel and then another rider talking on his phone almost took me out. I still don't know how I stayed up....who would have thought cars were safer than other riders???

Boise is the home of Kristin Armstrong who just brought home a gold medal in Cycling!! It was her third. They gave her a rousing welcome at the airport when she arrived. I think she also holds the track record for the Time Trials at Charlotte Motor Speedway. I wonder which of those she values the most????

505 miles done. Just 3000 more to go!

Supper at a fabulous Italian restaurant. As good as you'll find anywhere. But then again the hot dog I had for lunch at a gas station was pretty good too!!

At the start of our cross-country ride in 1977, I mused at what point the people we met would be more amazed at how far we had come vs how far we had to go. I never noticed that point.

Nice! Lightweight rig! I at least strapped on a small sleeping bag and a lightweight tarp behind the seat in case I got stuff between towns... and that happened.
Are you supported with SAG?

Too bad the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes was out of your way. I haven't done it myself yet but I've heard good things from someone who has.

Thanks for the update ... will be following along in spirit! It's easier on the legs and uses less rubber on the tire.
