When you know better but..... Waring: Gitane Interclub content.

The Interclub saga continues.... I wasn't going to paint it but I figured I have enough bikes with patina so I've found a close color in an aerosol paint I'm familiar with and it has decent durability for aerosol enamel. It's probably comparable to the original 1972-ish factory paint from the looks of the bike, maybe a touch better. VHT high heat engine enamel, I've used it quite a bit back in my car hobby days and given a decent cure time it hardens up fairly well. I ordered a replacement decal set but I had them substitute the for decals with decals from a Super Corsa which is what my bike has on it. I found a picture of one other Interclub with the same decals and oddly enough it the same year, color and about the same frame size on mine but it's WAY more roached out.

This is early 70's Chrysler Blue engine enamel, which is darker and brighter but I like it and it's easy to find.

My Interclub.

The other Interclub with Super Corsa fork decals.

Looks like it will run better than the Chrysler....nice color!
Best to check for any issues and take care of them before the paint.
Best, Ben

There's a Rustoleum spray that is a lot like that colour, called Seaside, it's supposed to be a good match to the Raleigh Lagoon Blue. I don't currently have a bike with that colour to compare directly, but just did two frames with Seaside and the match from memory is good, and it is a nice blue on its own anyway.

It has damaged chainstays from a cheap WalMart kickstand and Primitive Pete with a big wrench. They aren't "crushed" but the bottom is dented in pretty good. I'm going to try using a dent puller with weld on studs to bring them out close to original if possible then use JB Weld as filler. It may or may not work but I've seen it done on other steel tubing with reasonable results. Even if I can just get them back to the general shape they were I'll call it a win. No holes will be drilled, no material removed and when it's done NO KICKSTAND, Given that the damage is all on the underside and the French weren't known for putting any extra effort into the metal finish prior to paint it should be "good enough". I will take pics of the process. It's been about 10 years since I painted a bike, just long enough that I've probably forgotten what a true PITA it will be.

My Interclub had TdF fork decals (on a TdF fork), because I bent up the original in a wreck.
To be period correct, you really need Suntour V derailleurs. That's what the Mel Pinto shop sold to me after the Delrins cracked.

I have a 74 Patent Campy Nuovo Record RD and a pre-73 Record FD set aside for it. As much as I love my vintage Suntour it just doesn't seem right to put Japanese components on this one.
