Buying a bike from Mercari?
Anybody have any experience doing this? I've read mixed reviews online and was hoping for more data. Thanks in advance!

ebay, amazon, walmart, best buy, craigslist, taobao, etc etc etc all have mixed reviews, yet people use them all the time. I hope to one day have a lifestyle where I only spend money at places with impeccable reviews on goods with impeccable reviews.
Until then, Ill have to continue to slum it with the rest of the great unwashed and buy products with mixed reviews from ecommerce businesses with mixed reviews.

I had to look up WTF that was and it is not a bike shop. Best not to buy a bike from a place that doesn't actually deal and repair bicycles. Unless it is a used site then be very careful of stolen bikes and bikes that need a lot of work and broken bikes and things like that.

Looking at it, it appears to be more of a FB marketplace or Ebayish location where people are selling used (or new) stuff as individuals. Like CL, FB marketplace, Offerup, KIJI, or Ebay mostly it will depend on the individual item and seller as to whether it's a crapshoot or not. I don't know if there are any "buyer protections" ala Ebay so I'd tread carefully.

I am sorry but when you use the term slum it does have money related connotations.
From Merriam-Webster:
Noun:a densely populated usually urban area marked by crowding, run-down housing, poverty, and social disorganization
Verb: to go somewhere or do something that might be considered beneath one's station —sometimes used with it

Knock it off with the back and forth garbage posts. If you must, take your pointless arguments to PMs.

I ordered a bike on Mercari and it shipped. The seller obviously had no prior experience shipping bikes. The bike wasn't really disassembled. The cassette was up against the frame the entire shipment and absolutely destroyed the surface of the frame there (there are metal shavings everywhere). I contacted Mercari and the seller. Everything ended fine and I've got a replacement so I have one of the positive mercari reviews
