I see mustache handlebars are becoming more popular. Waiting at a light last week, a cyclist came up behind me and said, "Best handlebars ever."

I seem to have a fetish for Raleigh bikes. I've owned quite a few, and at one period, I had an insane number of them. I think all were from the 1970s. I'll try to post pictures later.

This is my Raleigh "Racing USA" more or less as it was equipped when it left the bike shop back in 1988. The frame is Reynolds 531c mfgd in England, shipped to the USA as a frame and in this case built to the buyers specs (I got it from the original owner). Originally it was all Shimano 600 tricolor 7 speed, which the owner upgraded to ultegra 8 speed with brifters in the 90s. I converted it back to the original 7 speed 600 group, but being I moved the bike from Dallas to Durango, I felt I need a more appropriate drivetrain for the mountains so I switched the 39/53 to a Deore 24/36/46 & a 13-26 cassette and Deore derailleurs.

I feel like showing Raleighs on this thread is a bit mundane, but I'm going to do it anyway.

All but three of the Raleighs here. The Sports, Record and Superbe were all a bit too far short of meriting inclusion, and only the Superbe is a keeper anyway.

From l-r... 1973 RRA (as received for the most part), 1962 Lenton Sports, 1971 Super Course (repainted and set up with 81 speeds), 1971 Competition, 1975 International, 1974 International, 1972 Competizione, 1977 Team Professional, 1949 Clubman, 1970 Professional, 197? (no serial number) Grand Sports.

Note that C&V members played a significant role in acquiring or bringing five of these machines into their present form... seven if you count Dr. Deltron's paint jobs on the Pro and Team Pro.

Thanks to randyjawa, GordoTrek, sloar, gugie and clubman especially. Also rhm for the great saddle, plus numerous others who helped out sourcing parts, and of course, nlerner for much advice and inspiration.

Been a while since I’ve shared my UK-built Raleigh USA. In my house it is affectionately referred to as the ketchup & mustard bike. Full Reynolds 531c makes this a real speedster. Like the more common UK/USA team colorways of the same period, this was also offered only as a frameset. I’ve only seen a couple like it online but oddly enough, there is an identical NOS frameset on the Bay right now.

I've got modern carbon, a couple of other highly thought of vintage bikes, but I LOVE my Raleighs! The green '73 Super Course was built from a junked scrap metal frame. My first ever build, custom paint, decals, frame repair, more $$$ than sense, but I love it. The gold '78 Super Course was a $20 Craigslist find, built mostly from parts I had laying around, original paint and "patina". Both are great rides, rode 45 miles on the gold one today. Both bikes are similar set ups, VGT Luxe RD, Cyclone II FD, Suntour bar ends, 34t Megarange 6 speeds, Sugino AT triple on the Green '73, Sakae Apex double on the gold '78.

Here's my Raleigh International Frankenbike that I ride occasionally. It's pretty much as I bought it about a year and a half ago. Its a good rider but there a 3 small dents in the top tube that don't affect anything but cosmetics.

I forgot I had a pic of this one, a Portage I owned briefly. It was given to me and was in very good shape but even though it was my size we had no room for it so I gave it to a friend. Wish I had it back.

Greetings, I raced amateur on this, in the States, and also for a few years in Germany while in the Air Force. It’s a great bike, built in Houston, Texas that I still occasionally ride.
