When I miss summer...

...I re-watch this a few times:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/303310...hoaN/lightbox/

Forget for a moment that there were a couple of what appeared to be "close calls" (they weren't). This gets me over those gaps of weeks during the winter when I don't get out and ride.

Also, it reminds me I can still do okay on the old rig even with me aches and pains

Nice camera placement; showing both brake levers, at least. Otherwise...

All my non fender bikes tucked away, nice and warm, though looking longingly at me and for the open, dry road. My fender bike--almost always a touring model--sustains and is a complement to the cold and rain. A stable ride, long wheelbase, carrying extra weight. We're not winning sprints out here in the dark, just simply calmly putting in the dutiful miles to work and back, or out on a route of ours.

I remember summer. Wasn't it was that time in 1976 when it stopped raining for 9 weeks? Great times

PS Nice video clip, thanks for sharing. Looks like a very enjoyable ride.

When I ride down Chicago's Lakefront Trail this time of year on a windy day, you can hear the sailboats in dry dock crying to get out, their rigging slapping against their masts. Kind of like the most expensive wind chimes you've ever heard. They know how your summer rides feel.

Thanks for the video! This is the main reason I Strava and snap pictures. It's a relaxing diversion in the winter time to look back at some great rides and pictures, plus seeing others as well.

NIce! I used to ride that trail every night I could when I was in college! Though it has improved since then.

For sure. The few dry (and cold!) days we have throughout the winter are a nice break, and the non-fender bikes get to come out and play. Their engine is not as fast and loose due to fighting to keep warm in addition to providing propulsion, but it's good to ride the more lithe steel nonetheless.

Went out today with @Wildwood after taping up a pair of tubulars. It was dry and not too cold so we had a good test ride of the tubulars and I finally ran the gold Colnago after replacing the seatpost, refurbing the brakes and re-positioning the brake levers. Short 14 miles or so, but it was nice to blow the dust off. We rode on the same trail as in the video. For that matter, I rode the same bike as in the video, too.

I was about to say, we should get together for a winter time ride like last year. Cold but (importantly) dry.

School's out until January 7 for me. I can work with anyone's schedule until after that. Hopefully we get a couple-day dry spell within which we can plan something local.

Btw, don't know if you go in for sponsored group rides, but February 3rd Cascade Bike Club is sponsoring a two-loop ride totaling around 25 miles on the new SR99 tunnel/viaduct before it's opened to vehicle traffic. Unless it rains, I plan on doing that. I certainly don't plan on driving my car on it after it opens, tho

It's a nice piece of pavement. Woodinville to Marymoor Park comes up a lot more quickly than you think. I need to just get on my bike and get out that way from my spot downtown. It's been too long and I've enjoyed that ride back in my earlier riding years (not that long ago at all, haha). 192 Brewing is out that way (Kenmore) which is a good 19 or so miles from downtown--a fun run-and-gun effort just to test my speed and endurance.

It's especially nice now that major repairs were completed in September. Lots of root-bumps taken out and an entirely new section put in between Bothell and Woodinville where the old roadbed was eroding away due to a collapsed culvert. By now I know every bump, dip, manhole cover, and crack

Thanks for sharing guys.

I had a couple of lousy winter riding experiences and now the bikes rarely, mostly never, come out in the cold anymore. Winter riding is more dangerous where I ride and i just don't enjoy the drama anymore. I must be getting old lol. In my younger days I'd be out in any weather condition. We'll get some nice days in March and that's when the bikes will come out again.

Nice diversion DD!

Nice diversion DD!
99% of winter days in Seattle are pansy winter days in properly cold sections of this country, so most cold days below 35° are just cold. Ice, at least near Puget Sound, just doesn't exist much of the time. Inland it can, but that's mostly heavily shaded areas. That trail where DD rode is really open much of the time, though some sections are always shaded....I'm basically disproving my point here, lol. Dang it. As long as things have been dry for a day or two, it's all clear for fenderless riding. I'm happily the first on the dry/summer/"pretty" bikes when that happens.
